DFC Rolling Stock by J K Jain

The document discusses rolling stock and train operations on the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) network in India. Key points include: 1) The DFC allows for higher train speeds (100 kmph), longer trains (1500m), and higher axle loads (25 tons) compared to existing Indian railways. 2) Freight trains on the DFC will be received from Indian Railways with proper documentation and may require en-route attention by emergency response teams located approximately every 400km. 3) Accident relief trains will be maintained by Indian Railways and stationed at junction points with the nearest DFC station for emergency response.

Rolling Stock on DFC
• As per Agreement between DFCCIL and MOR – DFCCIL shall
not own any rolling stock for the purpose of the implementation of
the project – except rolling stock used for construction or
maintenance or restoration related purposes.

•The maintenance of wagons/Locos would continue to remain the

responsibility of divisions concerned of IR.

•Freight trains on DFC will be received with proper BPC from IR.
Therefore no examination facilities are planned.

•However en-route attention may be required for unusual incidences

viz. brake binding, hanging parts, CBC knuckle broken, Axle Lock
etc. for continuation of smooth operations on DFC Network.

•At RCRV locations small emergency attention team will be

stationed to attend the rolling stock . Beat is about 400km.
Rolling Stock/Train Operations

• Speed certificates of all the type of rolling stock

applicable for IR has been made applicable for DFC.
• DFC has planned long haul operations with
Distributed Power System.
• On WDFC double stack container operation
planned.
• To run 25 t axle load wagon at 100 kmph, DFCCIL
has offered its section (New Ateli- New Dabla) for
conducting oscillation trials for 25 t axle load
wagons.
Crew Management Plan
•Crew- Initially IR Crew working on DFC , subsequently DFCCIL own
Crew

•Running Rooms /Crew Base

Running Rooms on DFCCIL-14 (WDFC – 09, EDFC – 05)

Some of the existing IR running also be used.
Crew Base – 9 ( WDFC-4, EDFC-5)

•Crew Lobbies
 25 Crew lobbies planned for booking of crew.

• Crew Management System (CMS)

Crew Management System (CMS) application developed by CRIS and
used by IR planned for DFC with necessary customisation for all crew
booking related functions.
Accident Management Plan
• DFCCIL has planned 4 ART’s (Accident Relief Train) along with higher
capacity cranes to be stabled on IR.
•Indian Railway will maintain and operate the ART & Crane for DFCCIL.

Accident/Rolling Stock attention Plan

• DFCCIL has planned to procure 8 nos. Rail cum Road Vehicle

(RCRV) equipped with MFD i.e 4 nos. on each Corridor to
attend/under take unusual attention to defective Wagons en-route.

• Locations of 8 nos. RCRVs on DFC. ( beat about 400km)

• BOXNS- 25 t axle load open wagon more than 2500

are in operation.
• Container Flat: 25 t Axle load container flat wagon
(BCSA & BCSB) under oscillation trials.
• 25 t Covered Wagon- design developed by RDSO in
collaboration with American Rail Car Industry (ARI).
Proto type is ready.
• 25 t hopper wagon design under development
• WDFC has potential to run three Deck Auto Car
Wagon due to high MMD
Wayside Monitoring of Rolling Stock
•To identify the defective rolling stock, DFCCIL planned to provide Wayside
equipment viz.

Acoustic Bearing Detector- to identify defective bearing of rolling stock

Wheel Impact Load detector – to identify flat wheel
Hot Box Hot Wheel Detector – to identify hot bearing and hot wheel of
rolling stock.
RFID based rolling stock identification planned
Data integration with IR planned

End Of Train Telemetry (EoTT)
• EoTT is an electronic device consisted of two units i.e. Head Of Train Unit
(HoT) fitted on Locomotive and End of Train Unit (EoT) portable device
fitted on last vehicle.
• The HoT and EoT exchange the signals with each other through wireless
communication system.
• Driver can monitor Brake Pipe Pressure of last vehicle on HoT in Cab

EoT HoT

• DFCCIL has planned to run train with EoTT.
