This document provides an overview of computers, how they work, their basic parts, software, computer systems, and privacy/security. It discusses how computers gather, store, process, and output data. The basic parts include the input, storage, processing, and output. It also summarizes the different types of software like application software, system software, driver software, middleware, and programming software. Finally, it defines computer privacy as safeguarding data and identity, while cybersecurity refers to tools and policies to protect cyber assets and users.

A computer is a programmable
Computer electronic device that uses a set of
user-provided instructions to
automatically conduct mathematical
and logical processes. It is an
electronic device that gathers data,
stores it, processes it in accordance
with user commands, and then
outputs the outcome.

The Software

A set of instructions, data or programs used to operate

computers and execute specific tasks. It is a generic term
used to refer to applications, scripts and programs that run on
a device.

It can be thought of as the variable part of a computer,

Example of Software are:

- Application software
- System software
- Driver software
- Middleware
- Programming Software
01 Application Software

The most common type of software, it is a computer software

package that performs a specific function for a user .

Examples of modern applications include office suites, graphics

software, databases and database management programs and
the like.
02 System Software

A software designed to run a computer's application programs

and hardware. It coordinates the activities and functions of the
hardware and software. The OS is the best example of system
software.
03 Driver Software

Also known as device drivers, often considered a type of system

software which control the devices and peripherals connected to a
computer, enabling them to perform their specific tasks.

Such as USB storage devices, keyboards, headphones and

printers.
04 Middleware

Mediates between application and system software or between

two different kinds of application software.

For example, middleware enables Microsoft Windows to talk to

Excel and Word.

It is also used to send a remote work request from an application

in a computer.
05 Programming Software

Programming software and programming tools enable

developers to develop, write, test and debug other software
programs.

Examples of programming software include assemblers,

compilers, debuggers and interpreters.
Components of Computer System
1. Input

An input is the information that we provide to the

Computer. We provide the information using the Computer's
input devices: Keyboard, mouse, microphone, and many more.

2. Storage Space

It is the place where our input gets stored. It is known as

Computer Memory that keeps the data into it. It uses two types of
memory, i.e., internal and external memory.
Components of Computer System
3. Processing

The processing of the input is performed by the CPU, which

is the Central Processing Unit of the Computer. It is also known as
the brain of a computer that is responsible for processing the data
provided by the user.

4. Output

When we type something using a keyboard, the place where

we see the typed input is the Computer Monitor or Computer
Screen. A computer screen allows seeing the input we provided to
the Computer.
Computer Privacy and Security

COMPUTER PRIVACY is about CYBERSECURITY refers to the
