Orthographic Projectionpresentation

The document discusses orthographic projection in engineering drawings. Orthographic projection uses two-dimensional drawings to depict three-dimensional objects from different angles using parallel projection lines perpendicular to the projection plane. It explains the three fundamental orthographic projections are the top, front, and side views of an object. Different line types represent distinct purposes in drawings and their thickness and patterns help understand how an object appears and is constructed. Cutting plane lines differentiate internal and external features by bisecting projection planes in dashed lines.

Objectives
• To Understand what is engineering drawing and its purpose
• To Identify and differentiate different types of lines and know what
they represent
• To acknowledge the line weight and pattern for different types of lines
• To Learn about types of projections and what they illustrate
• To know the three fundamental orthographic projection, top, front and
side view of simple objects
• To list the three projection planes and what dimensions they convey
• To Learn about different types of dimensions and how to use them
Orthographic projection
Technical drawings are precise and detailed drawings of an object, they
are basically means of communication used by Engineers to deliver a
message or an idea of how the object is constructed, what parts of the
object are used to do a specific function and how is it portrayed to the
world.
Orthographic projection
Engineering Drawing is a type of technical drawing, it is a composed
drawing used as a visual aid, it shows a series of projections including
different angles called Orthographic Projections. An Orthographic
Projection is a configuration of parallel projections lines, these lines are
perpendicular to the projection plane in order for its outline to be
projected on the plane. It is used to depict three-dimensional objects by
several two-dimensional drawings, all viewed from different angles with
the help of the parallel lines that are orthogonal to the plane of the
drawing. These two-dimensional drawings may include a top view or a
plan, a front view elevation and a side view elevation.
Orthographic projection
In some cases, a cutting plane line is used to differentiate between what
the object consists of and what is the object like from the outside. The
cutting line bisects the planes that are drawn to provide a perspective of
the internal features or attributes. Of course, to be able to distinguish
what has been cut and what has not we use dashed lines for a clearer
picture.

Line types
Lines are the most crucial elements when it comes to Engineering
Drawing, they are the base of the drawing and basically what it creates
it. Therefore, we need to be very specific and precise when choosing our
line types, since there are different line types in engineering, and each
line type represents a distinct purpose and design, the thickness and
appearances of lines differ in order to help us understand and
comprehend how the object should appear and how it should be
constructed.
