Focus On: Multi-Loop Topology
Unprecedented Flexibility and Power

8 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Multi-Loop

 With this release, TrueSite Workstation ES Net

now supports:
 All 7 ES Net loops (opposed to one (1) in
previous release)

 Any mix of 4120 and ES Net loops, up to

seven (7) total

 Incident Commander limited to two (2)

4120 Network loops or up to seven
(7) ES Net loops

 One NIC card is required per loop

 Connections between TSW and NICs with
Simplex approved Network Switch

9 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Multi-Loop

 For each loop, NICs:

 Can be standalone External NICs or
 Can be populated in 1 or more host Fire Alarm Panel(s)

10 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Multi-topology

 To ensure redundancy, ES Net is based on a ring architecture, which is its basic building
block

11 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Multi-topology, continued

 With Multi-topology, more topologies can be created using rings as construction elements
 Rings can be cascaded via bridges or concentrated around a hub

12 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Multi-topology Rules

 One rule to remember…is to avoid creating “rings within rings”

 The following examples of topologies would be invalid

13 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Multi-topology, continued

 If redundant pathways are not required for certain applications, it is also possible to connect
to nodes without having redundancy

 Connection type is called a Spur

 A Spur could hang off regular ring or be used to create a star topology

14 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Focus On: Supplemental Traffic
Supervised, Highly Reliable Bandwidth for Critical Network Traffic

15 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Supplemental Traffic

 Fire traffic and control data only use a fraction of the available bandwidth on
ES Net Fire network

 Extra bandwidth is available for other usages

 TSW Remote Clients, Video, etc…

 Extra bandwidth is available through the supplemental traffic channel

16 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Supplemental Traffic, continued

 Fire related traffic is totally segregated from supplemental traffic

 Just like fast lane on the highway for high priority vs regular vehicles

 Supp. channel is limited @ 80 Mbps max, best effort (lowest priority)

 Provides a robust channel as system is battery-backed and redundant

17 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Supplemental Traffic Example

 Possible use case: Connecting TSW Remote Clients to TSW Server(s)

18 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Supplemental Traffic Example

 Possible use case: Video system

19 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Supplemental Traffic Programming
 Setting up Supplemental Traffic

In the Programmer or Configurator:

1. Select an Ethernet port (A/ B or port Ethernet

Media module)

2. Set the port to Suppl. Channel 1

All nodes with a configured supplemental traffic

port will be able to see and communicate with
each other using that “Pipe”

20 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Support of DSL on ULC-listed Networks

 It is now possible to configure a DSL media card and set its ports to “Fire Network” or “Fire
Network Spur” when Network listing is set to “ULC”

21 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Focus On: ES Net Hardware
Robust, Scalable and Easy to both Configure and Install

22 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

31 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Diagnostics Tool

 PC-based standalone application that

provides ways to diagnose and
troubleshoot an ES Net network

 Users require access to Simplex Technical

Support site from Simplex Fire website

https://simplex-fire.com

 Usage is for Authorized personnel only and

protected by a TR dongle

32 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Diagnostics Tool, continued

Simplest way to diagnose an ES Net trouble:

1. Connect the TR PC to the Service Port of any

ES Panel on the Network

2. Once launched from the host PC, the diagnostic Tool

will gather diagnostic information for every node on the
network

 TSW PC can also be used but required a valid TR dongle

33 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Diagnostic Tool: Topology/Monitoring View

 Allows viewing topology, get statistics and

network status for the last day/week or launch a
terminal session

 Reports error conditions with graphical Topology

and Monitoring screens

 To support additional network architectures, the

Diagnostic tool has been updated to provide:

 Manual and automatic rearrangement of the

topology
 Saves a snapshot of the network layout

34 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Diagnostic Tool: Historical View
 For each port, operational parameters and
errors are accumulated in15 minute
increments for up to 24 hours and
displayed using histograms

 Daily data is then summed up for the

week

 Results in histograms for each day/week

parameter

35 Johnson Controls, Inc. —

Diagnostics Tool, continued
 View general network errors
 Link down
 Miswired links
 Ground fault
 Version control mismatch between nodes
