LOTO Procedure

A lockout is a device used to secure energy isolating devices in the off position, ensuring that equipment being controlled cannot be operated until the lockout device is removed. A tagout uses a tag to identify who applied the lockout device. The lockout/tagout procedure involves an area owner authorizing work and identifying energy sources that need to be isolated. Department operators then apply locks and tags to isolate equipment and provide keys to the area owner. Before starting work, affected employees apply locks to a key control box. Once all locks are removed, the area owner can request departments remove their lockout devices to restore energy.
