MANAGEMENT
What is household?
 Individuals who comprise a
family unit and who live
together under the same roof;
individuals who dwell in the
same place and comprise a
family, sometimes
encompassing domestic help;
all those who are under the
control of one domestic head.

 A group of people, each with
different abilities and needs,
who live together most of the
time and contribute to a
common economy, and share
the food and other income
derived from the common
economic activities.
 Household is a basic unit for

socio-cultural and economic


analysis.
What is difference between family and household?

 A household consists of one or more persons


living in the same house, condominium or
apartment. They may or may not be related.
 A family has two or more members who live in the

same home and are related by birth, marriage or


adoption.
Type of Household:

 There are two categories: non-family households


and family households.
 A non-family household consists either of one

person living alone or of two or more persons


who share a dwelling, but do not constitute a
family.
 Family households are divided into two
subcategories:
 1. one-family households
 2. multiple-family households
 A one-family household
consists of a single family
(e.g., a couple with or
without children).

 A multiple-family
household is made up of
two or more families
occupying the same
dwelling.
What is Resource?
What is household resource?
 Household resources
consist mainly of the
wages earned, income
from property (interest,
dividends, income from
land, etc.), of earnings
from market production
and social benefits.
What are the Basic Household
resources?
 Human Resources: wages earned, (abilities, talents,
skills, knowledge, energies, attitudes, and health
physical labour, educational attainment).
 Non-human Resources: material goods, refer to
objects, things, or possessions that you use daily to
satisfy your needs and wants (land, capital,
technology, money, and time).
 1. Information and Time are important resources but
most people are not very conscious of this.
 2. Capital include; Economic/Financial, human and
social capital.
What is household resource
management?
 uses the household as an entry-point to
understand and address rural development
challenges. External factors such as
policies and epidemics affect various types
of households, socio-economic groups
and household members in different
ways.
 Household resource management also
describe as “the process of making
decisions about how to maximize the use
of resources.
What is Management?

 A process of planning, decision making,


organizing, leading, motivation and controlling
the human resources, financial, physical, and
information resources of an organization to
reach its goals in an efficient and effective
manner.
