Learning Disabilities (LDs) refer to a variety of
neurologically-based disorders that affect a person’s ability to take in, understand, remember or express information • Is defined as a persistent Attention pattern of problematic Deficit symptoms that include difficulty Hyperactivity staying focused and paying Disorder attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and/or hyperactivity (ADHD) (overactivity)

Inconsistency in performance from one day to another
Excessive daydreaming during a school related task
Learning Excess motor activity (something is always moving)
Characteristics Impulsiveness (act without thinking much of the time)

General Educational Adaptation • Provide predictable schedules as much as possible • Provide preparation for changes in routines and give notice that they are about to be asked • To make a transition in activities • Give advance planning and instruction about unfamiliar tasks and situation General Educational Adaptation • Create small, calm, and controlled group setting that provide greater safety and increase the chance for successful social experiences • Surround kids with others who share interests or talents • Give them verbal direction and instruction. Use their strengths with language to help them • Learn what others can observe and learn more easily General Educational Adaptation • Help them learn to observe and notice others’ facial expression, body language, tone of voice and other social cues • Teach them such details as: • What is expected in different social, family and school situation • How others feel, how to organize and carry out task • Expect to repeat direct teaching several times before kids are able to master the skills. • Model and practice the use of language that is similar to age-peers, rather than relying on “adult” language.
