Lesson 5 - Operations On Functions Subtraction

1. Functions can be added, subtracted, multiplied, or divided. Subtraction of functions f(x) and g(x) is defined as (f-g)(x)=f(x)-g(x). 2. To subtract functions, follow the same process as subtracting integers: change the sign of the subtrahend (the number being subtracted) and proceed with addition. 3. Work through an example problem subtracting the functions f(x)=3x+2 and g(x)=2+5x by changing the sign of g(x), arranging the terms, and combining like terms.
