CNC(VMC) TECHNOLOGY
INTRODUCTION TO CNC

The CNC technology was evolved in 1970, when the minicomputers

were invented.

Computer Numerical Control(CNC) is a method for automating

control of machine tools through the use of software embedded in a
microcomputer attached to the tool.

The computer in CNC system is a dedicated system with stored

program to perform all the basic NC functions.
ELEMENTS OF CNC SYSTEM
STEPS IN PART PROGRAMMING
 Process planning
 Axes selection
 Tool selection
 Selection of job cutting parameters
 Job and toolset-up
 Part programming
 Program verification and feedback
 Machining process
CNC (VMC) TECHNOLOGY
CNC VMC’S Can be utilized for not only cutting, but also drilling,
carving, engraving, tapping, counter sinking, chamfering and many other
applications.
CNC VMC’s Components

OVERVIEW OF 3D EXPERIENCE

 3D experience platform is a collaborative environment that empowers business and people to innovate in entirely

new ways and create products and services using virtual experiences.
 The 3D experience provides a real time view of business activity and ecosystem, connecting people, ideas and

data in a single collaborative environment that empowers business and very good opportunity for the people to
innovate.
3D experience platform acts as market place that connects customers seeking the following
expertise and services
 Manufacturing Service

 Components Service

 Engineering Service

 Business experience service

Benefits of Using 3DEXPERIENCE

• Allows internal and external users to share ideas

• Easy for all members of the organization to use
• Lets non-designers contribute to the design process
• Secure data sharing and storage
• Helps make data-driven decisions
INDUSTRIAL ROBOTICS
INDUSTRIAL ROBOT
An industrial robot is a reprogrammable, Multifunctional manipulator designed to move materials, parts, tools or
special devices through a variable programmed motions for the performance of variety of tasks.

INDUSTRIAL ROBOT MAIN COMPONENTS

 Manipulator

 Controller

 Human Interface Device

 Power Supply

 Drives

ROBOT ANATOMY

 Base

 Body

 Arm assembly

 Wrist

ROBOT PROGRAMMING

Robot programming is the art of teaching a robot a series of tasks to be performed with
required accuracy, velocity and repeatability.
METHODS OF PROGRAMMING THE ROBOT

 Manual method
 Lead through method

 Off line programming

• DIFFERENT ROBOT PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES

 Python

 Java

 C/C++

 MATLAB
ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING

Additive Manufacturing is the process of direct conversion of 3D digital data into

physical part by depositing the material in layers according to the requisites.
Additive Manufacturing by ASTM:
“Process of joining materials to make objects from 3D model data, usually layer upon
layer, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing methodologies, such as traditional
machining”
CLASSIFICATION OF AM
STEPS IN AM PROCESS

1. Generation of CAD Model

2. Conversion of CAD model into AM Machine acceptable format
3. File transfer to AM machine and STL file manipulation
4. Machine Setup
5. Build
6. Part removal
7. Post processing
8. Application
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
Advantages : Disadvantages :
Design complexity and freedom
Questionable accuracy
Speed
Support material removal
Tool-less
Extreme lightweight design
Limitation of raw material
Environmental friendly Material cost
No storage cost Intellectual property issues
Increased employment Limitations of size

APPLICATIONS

 Food industry

 Bio printing

 Automotive

 Aerospace

 Apparel

 Rapid prototyping
EXTRUSION BASED SYSTEMS (EBS)

Basic principles of EBS

 Loading of material

 Liquification of the material

 Application of pressure to move the material through the nozzle

 Extrusion

 Plotting

 Bonding

 Inclusion of support structures to enable complex geometrical features.

FUSED DEPOSITION MODELING (FDM)
HANDS ON PROCESS
FDM is the most commonly used extrusion based AM technology.

It uses a heating chamber to liquify polymers

The polymer is fed into the system as a filament

The pushing of the filament inside the chamber generates extrusion pressure

The material is plotted on the bed in layers to the required geometry
