Dry Gas Seals

Dry gas seals are mechanical seals that use an injected gas, like nitrogen or clean process gas, to prevent leakage in compressors. They consist of two faces with highly polished surfaces separated by a thin film of injected gas. Tandem dry gas seals use two sets of faces and gas injection to improve sealing. Common problems with dry gas seals include contamination of the injected gas, failure of elastomer components due to temperature or pressure limitations, and chemical incompatibility causing corrosion or degradation of metallic and elastomer parts.
