Aesthetics

Curriculum Theory and Practice

Linda Grace L. Manansala

Presenter
The concept of “aesthetics” was first used by
the philosopher Alexander Von Baumgarten in
Aesthetics the mid-eighteenth century derived from the
Aesthetics
Greek aisthetike, meaning sense perception.

For Baumgarten, aesthetics was concerned

with the perfection of perception and with the
perception of perfection, or beauty.

“Beauty” is a part of nature, which everyone

feels, and “aesthetic sense” is the ability to
perceive the existence of beautiful things, a
sense that is actively constructed by the
individual’s inner heart.
Aesthetics
Aesthetics is the branch of philosophy concerned
with the study of beauty and taste as well as
the philosophy of art.
It examines aesthetic values, often expressed
through judgments of taste and it plays an
important role in education.

The aesthetic dimension
of education is concerned
with developing a sense of
appreciation for beauty and
creativity in various art forms
such as music, visual arts,
drama, and literature.

view of their surroundings.
As students gain new experiences,
relate information to previous knowledge,
and form their own thoughts on beauty,
they will continue to develop.
John dewey
For Dewey, the aesthetic is an
essential qualitative aspect of those
genuine experiences that contribute
to the process of personal growth, or
the “experiential continuum”, that is
education.
The aesthetic is by no means
confined to the arts. Scientific,
mathematical, historical, artistic or
other experiences can be said to have
an aesthetic quality.

This is key to a child's
development because learning
takes place just above their
independent level.

in education
2. Aesthetic education
involves exposing children
to various art forms and
encouraging them to
engage in creative activities,
such as painting, drawing,
singing, and acting. This
exposure helps children
develop a sense of beauty,
taste and aesthetics.
3. Aesthetics education is
not only important for
developing creativity and
imagination in children but
also fostering critical
thinking skills.
4. Through the study of art,
children learn to think critically
and develop their analytical and
interpretative skills.
For example, analyzing a work
of art requires careful
observation, interpretation, all
of which are important skills
that can be applied to other
areas of learning.
5. The aesthetic dimension
of education is also
important for fostering
cultural awareness and
appreciation.

conclusion
The aesthetic dimension of education is an
important aspect of developing well-rounded,
creative, and culturally aware individuals. It plays a
crucial role in the development of a child’s
cognitive, emotional, and social development.
Early childhood educators must incorporate aesthetic
development strategies and techniques to ensure a quality,

success, plan for a variety of learning experiences and keep
in mind each child's zone of proximal development,
which is the distance between the level a child can perform
independently versus their potential level with guidance.
Allowing students to learn through experience has proven,
through various theories, to create a well-rounded,
intelligent individual.
