Abraham Review of Road Network Design

This document reviews the road network design in Hadejia L.G.A., Jigawa State, Nigeria. It aims to obtain a digitized map of the existing road network, design an ideal road network, and compare it to the existing network. The study area is Hadejia town, which has a population of over 100,000 people engaged in farming, animal rearing, and trade. The document outlines the significance of road network design in improving journey times, the environment, and public transportation. It presents maps of the existing and designed realistic road networks, noting gaps in connectivity between some wards that the new design addresses.

INTRODUCTION
• Transportation is important in the sense that it allows people to take part in human
activities. With the increase in population, the demand for transportation is
increasing.
• A network can be defined as a set of linear features through which resources flow.
The term network refers to the framework of routes within a system of locations,
identified as nodes.
• A Road network is the system of interconnected roads designed to accommodate
wheeled road going vehicles and pedestrian traffic. A Road Network is a system of
interconnecting lines and points on a map that visualize a system of streets for a
certain area. It always comes with analysis, where one can study the best route for
travelers and the most ideal place to build service areas
AIM
• To review and design road network in Hadejia L.G.A, Jigawa
OBJECTIVES
 To obtain a digitized map of Hadejia L.G.A reviewing its existing road network
 To obtain level of concentration of various wards in Hadejia L.G.A
 To design an ideal road network in Hadejia L.G.A
 To obtain a final design from comparing the Ideal Road network with the existing
road network
SIGNIFICANCE/JUSTIFICATION OF STUDIES

• A good road network design is very necessary and it is important that road network
design studies be carried out over a catchment region due to the below reasons:
• Helps improve journey time: Perhaps the core objective of any Road Network is
to reduce travel time. They do this by figuring out the best traffic scheme and the
fastest route that permits vehicles to reach their destination quicker.
• Good for the environment: In connection to the previous point, less time on the
road means less air polluted by vehicles. When people are stuck in traffic, where
they take up hours just idle on the streets with their engines on, they are damaging
the environment by just sitting around.
• Reduces delays to public transportation: Public transportation is not exempted
from Road Networking. A Good Road Network means transportation is faster for
everyone regardless of the mode of travel.
AREA/SCOPE OF STUDY
AREA/SCOPE OF STUDY
• Haɗejiya (also Haɗeja, previously Biram) is a Hausa town in eastern Jigawa State,
northern Nigeria. The population was approximately 105,628 in 2006. Hadejia lies
between latitude 12.4506N and longitude 10.0404E. It shared boundary with Kiri
Kasama Local Government from the East, Mallam Maɗori Local Government
from the North, and Auyo Local Government from the West.
• The dominant occupation of the inhabitants is crop farming and animal rearing
which a considerable percentage, engaged in trading, fishing and services
including civil service. The people of Haɗeja are largely Muslims, although some
follow indigenous belief systems. The town lies to the north of the Hadejia River,
and is upstream from the Hadejia-Nguru wetlands.

conclusion
•It was observed that there is no existing connection link between Matsaro-Fateka,
Matsaro-Tashena, Matsaro-Dubantu wards. In the realistic network design, links
were provided especially as Matsaro can be categorized in the level 1 concentration
level.
•Looking forward, the realistic shows places that possible road construction can be
done incase of future development of Hadejia L.G.A.
