The main law enforcement agencies in Turkey are the Turkish National Police, which is responsible for internal security in cities and provinces, the Gendarmerie, a military force that operates outside of cities, and the Coast Guard, which patrols coastal areas and combats smuggling. HISTORY
• Police training in Turkey is based on a long-established
tradition from both the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of
Turkey.
• The Turkish National Police (TNP) , which today is the state
agency responsible for internal security in all provinces and
districts in Turkey was established on April 10, 1845.
• On the 5th of September 2023, the Director General, Dr. Oguz
Serkant AKIN, met in Ankara, at the headquarters of the
Turkish National Police, the newly appointed Director General,
Governor Erol AYYILDIZ

POLICE IN TURKEY
• The police force is the main responsible institution for the law
enforcement of the cities.

• The high command of the Turkish Police, situated in Ankara (the


capital city in turkey), is called the General Directorate of the
security.

• Every district also hosts a District Directorate (81 district)

• The organization has a centralized hierarchy.


GENDARMERIE IN
TURKEY
• Military forces of law enforcement in Turkey.

• Assume the duties under the Minister of


Interior.

• Their area of jurisdiction in outside the city.


COAST GUARD IN
TURKEY
• Responsible for controlling the coasts and fighting
smuggling.

• During peace time, it is under the command of the


Ministry of Interior.

• During emergency and war time it falls under the


command of the Turkish Navy.
