Climate Change Group 1 New

Atmospheric science is the study of the Earth's atmosphere, including weather, climate dynamics, chemistry, and air pollution. The goals of atmospheric science include advancing understanding of atmospheric processes, predicting weather and climate change, and identifying environmental threats. Key topics covered include the difference between weather and climate, the structure and composition of the atmosphere, how climate has changed over time, and major issues like pollution, acid rain, and ozone depletion. Human activities that release greenhouse gases and affect reflectivity can drive changes in the atmosphere and climate.

ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE

Learning objectives:

• Understanding the difference between climate and weather and how their
variability is related to natural hazards.

• Know the basic concepts of atmospheric science such as structure,

composition and dynamics Of the atmosphere.

• Understand how climate has changed during the last million years,
through glacial and Interglacial conditions ,and how human activity is
altering our content climate .
WHAT IS
ATMOSPHERIC
SCIENCE?
• Atmospheric science is the study
of weather analysis and
predictability, climate and
global changes ,the circulation of
the atmosphere relating to weather
system and their impact on the
earth ,air quality and other
Atmospheric processes that affect
us.
PURPOSE OF ATMOSPHERIC
SCIENCE
• Atmospheric sciences
include the advance of
fundamental
understanding, the
prediction of weather and
climate change and the
Identification of
environmental threats.

WHAT ARE THE
ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE
ISSUES?
• Human activities on
Earth’s surface can
changes in the
atmosphere
• Pollution
• Acid rain
• Holes in the ozone
POLLUTION
• Some air pollutants cause the climate to warm Energy from the son
reaches Earth’s surface and is radiated back into the atmosphere as heat.
Green house gases prevent some of that heat from leaving the
atmosphere. The recent increase in green house gas pollution trapping
excess heat and causing the climate to warm.
ACID RAIN
• Acid rain is caused by chemical reaction that begins when compounds like
sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air
• Acid rain is one result of polluting gas emissions
HOLES OF OZONE LAYER
• When the ozone hole forms each spring, total ozone concentrations in the
lower stratosphere dip. The annual dip has caused a strong springtime
cooling trend in the lower polar stratosphere over the past few decades. This
springtime cooling amplifies the temperature contrast between the poles and
equator.
CAUSES OF
CLIMATE CHANGE
• Heat – trapping green house gases and the Earth’s
climate
• Greenhouse gases
• Reflectivity or absorption of sun’s energy
• Changes in the Earth’s orbit and rotation
• Variations of solar activity
• Changes in the Earth’s reflectivity
• Volcanic activity
SOLUTIONS

• There are many solutions

to air Pollution
• Burn less coal

• Lessen the impact of cars

• Conserve energy – at home work, and everywhere

• Monitor air quality warnings and take action on poor air quality days

• Take action within your community to find solutions to air pollution

• The responsibilities of the Atmospheric sciences include the advance of
fundamental understanding, the prediction of weather and climate change,
And the Identification of environmental threats
10 Best ways to Reduce Air pollution
• Using public transports

• Turn off the lights when not in use

• Recycle and reuse

• No to plastic bags

• Reduction of forest fire and smoking

• Use of fans instead for chimneys

• Avoid usage of crackers.
