Tongue Depressor

A tongue depressor is an L-shaped instrument used to examine the oral cavity and oropharynx. It has flat and curved ends, with the examiner holding the curved end to place the flat end at the junction of the front and back third of the tongue. A eustachian catheter is a metallic tube with a curved proximal end and ring at its base, used to test the patency of the eustachian tube and deliver medications to the middle ear.

Tongue depressor

Tongue depressor
It is a L-shaped instrument with flat and curved ends.
Examiner holds the instrument at curved end, placing the flat end at junction
anterior 2/3rd and posterior 1/3rdof tongue.
USES

• Examination of oral cavity and oropharynx • Cheek retraction

• For posterior rhinoscopy • Checking out for loose teeth

• Cold spatula test

• Check post nasal bleeding

• During intraoral surgical procedures

• Soft palate retraction using curved end.


Eustachian catheter
EUSTACHIAN CATHETER
It is a metallic catheter with a curved proximal end and ring at its base.
It is 12-15 cm in length.
Ring on the distal end indicates the direction of the tip of the catheter
USES

• To test patency of the eustachian tube

• To inflate the middle ear

• To install medications to the middle ear

• Used as a suction cannula
