Greenhouse: by Abdullah Kashif

A greenhouse allows plants to be grown in a controlled environment by regulating temperature and humidity. It stays warm inside during winter due to sunlight heating the interior. To build an efficient greenhouse, natural daylight should be maximized using transparent materials like glass or mirrors. Insulation materials should be safe for the environment, and energy and resources should be conserved through solar power, efficient water management, and alternative energy sources. Noise and loss of biodiversity should also be minimized to protect the surrounding wildlife and environment.

Greenhouse

BY ABDULLAH KASHIF
What is a • A greenhouse lets you create your own
microclimate, controlling the temperature
"Greenhouse"? and humidity you expose your plants to.
Whether you want to grow vegetables all
year long, cultivate exotic plants, or start
seedlings off very early in the season, your
greenhouse provides the adaptable
growing environment you need.
• A greenhouse stays warm inside, even
during the winter. In the daytime, sunlight
shines into the greenhouse and warms the
plants and air inside.
Efficient active cooling within the home

How do we make a Maximize natural daylight

greenhouse? Use of safe insulation material

Energy efficient water and electricity management

Efficient usage of alternative sources of energy

Minimize sound pollution

Minimize the loss of bio-diversity

To withstand natural calamities

Now let's break
down all the
points
Efficient active
cooling
• To get efficient cooling, we must avoid
artificial cooling and start to add more
doors, windows, blinder, and chimneys
• A lot of gateways helps the air to
ventilate, which makes the cooling fresh
and efficient
Maximize natural
daylight
• To maximize the natural daylight, we
make either the walls or roofs from
transparent materials like glass
• We could also add in some mirrors at the
right angles, so the light passes through
the whole greenhouse
• Applying white paint on windows helps a
lot as well
Use of safe insulation
materials
• There are a lot of safe materials
which the nature can provide us
with, like glass, fiberglass, acrylic,
double-sheet polyethylene film,
polyvinyl chloride, and
polycarbonate
• Glass is the most preferable because
it is transparent and lets daylight
pass through it
Energy efficient water
and electricity
management
• The most efficient way of energy saving
water and electricity is solar panels
• As we live in the UAE, there is a lot of heat
and sunlight here, the solar panels charge
from the sunlight which makes it efficient
and energy saving
• Solar panels have the power to charge
almost any type of machine
Efficient usage of
alternative sources of
energy
• Natural gas and oil are the most common
fuels used to heat greenhouses. However,
several other energy sources, including
solar, wind, and biofuels, can be used to
generate heat and electricity
• The one simple thing we can do is to turn
of the switch when needed least
Minimize sound
pollution
• Minimizing the sound pollution is
easy and it helps a lot
• It can be done by adding a special
kind of wall or a something with
higher density, like a thick glass wall
(helps with both sound and light)
Minimize the loss
of bio-diversity
• Bio-diversity is the variety of plant and
animal life in the world or in a particular
habitat, a high level of which is usually
considered to be important and desirable
• To avoid bio-diversity we can use more
natural products like soil or plants instead
of harmful substances like fertilizers or oil
• These severely damage the bio-diversity
Withstand natural
calamities
• Natural weathers and climates can be a
major problem for something as small as a
greenhouse (Earthquakes or lightning)
• We can use equipment like shock
receivers, they help absorb lightning
strikes and can also reduce the impact of
an earthquake
• Building stone layers is also good against
lightning because it is not an insulator and
strong stones can face an earthquake
How could the physical properties of the
greenhouse affect the environment?

Materials of the greenhouse should be set to Glass can be a danger the life around it Materials like fiberglass, acrylic, double-
not harm the environment, though some because if it shatters, it may hurt the sheet polyethylene film, polyvinyl chloride,
materials still may harm it creatures and polycarbonate can also be toxic or
deadly to some of the life who is around it
How 'green' really is the "greenhouse"?

Considering all the materials we just used, nothing is ever safe without precautions

Materials like glass, fiberglass, acrylic, double-sheet polyethylene film, polyvinyl chloride,
and polycarbonate can keep the life inside green and healthy but might be harmful for the life
outside

Oil is a major problem for pollution so we avoided and replaced it with environmentally safe
solutions like solar panels and windmills, windmill could still be a problem for the creatures in
the air
The finishing touch

To maximize the efficiency our greenhouse, we could use multiple sensors for different purposes

A temperature sensor would beep if the temperature is high or low, this will alarm the administrator
and would help him act fast

An alarm would also help to inform the administrator that it's time for a different task

We should try building this nearby nature not city, so we can reduce sound pollution, air pollution, and
water pollution
Thank you
