System Information Broadcast
——Overview
 The function of LTE System Information Broadcasting is same as 3G.
But there are much difference in scheduling and specific information.
 System information is divided into the MasterInformationBlock (MIB)
and a number of SystemInformationBlocks (SIBs)
 The MIB includes a limited number of most essential parameters , and
is transmitted on BCH
 SIB contains a specific collection of information ,which are transmitted
on DL-SCH

System Information Broadcast
—— MIB

 MIB dose not involve SI mapping

 The MIB uses a fixed schedule with a periodicity of 40 ms
and repetitions made within 40 ms.
 Physical resource occupied by MIB: in time domain , MIB
stable occupied slot1 of #0 sub-frame for transmission. In
frequency domain , MIB is in the middle 6 RBs.

System Information Broadcast
—— SIB1
 The SIB1 uses a fixed schedule with a periodicity of 80 ms and
repetitions made within 80 ms. The first transmission of SIB1 is
scheduled in subframe #5 of radio frames for which the SFN mod 8
= 0, and repetitions are scheduled in subframe #5 of all other radio
frames for which SFN mod 2 = 0.
 Physical resource occupied SIB1 : in time domain , SIB1 occupied
#5 sub-frame for transition.

System Information Broadcast
—— SIB-n

 Other SIBs need to map to SI , so that SIB schedule is

the same as SI.
 SI schedule period: each SI schedule cycle can
configuration flexible, so that the whole SFN axis can see
following status.
SIB1 80ms

SIB2 160ms

SIB3 320ms

SIB4/5 640ms

SIB6/7/8 1280ms
System Information Broadcast
——System Information Update

 For UE, system Information is changing, if System Information

not change longer than 6 hours,UE will try to acquire the
System Information .
 When E-UTRAN changes (partly) system information, it notifies
the UEs about this change. In IDLE state UE receive change
notification through paging, in connect state UE receive
change notification through monitoring PDCCH.
 Upon receiving a change notification, the UE knows the
system information will change at the next modification period
boundary. Different colour represent different System
Information .

RRC Processing
——processing example (paging)
 The purpose of paging is to notify incoming call , the
change of system information or ETWS information to
UE which is in IDLE or CONNECTED state.
 The paging information is provided to upper layers,
which in response may initiate RRC connection
establishment, e.g. to receive an incoming call.
 E-UTRAN initiates the paging procedure by
transmitting the Paging message . One paging
message can identify numbers of UE.

 When eNB need the measurement from UE, eNB will send
the measurement control to UE.
 UE will report the measurement according by the
Measurement control, when the measurement results meet
the conditions in ReportConfig, UE report it.
 When receive Measurement Report, eNB will judge and
trigger handover or SON-related operations.

It used to the handover based on load balance
B2 Event: Serving becomes worse than threshold1 and inter
RAT neighbour becomes better than threshold2. It used to the
handover based on load balance
