This model proposes that human personality can be
measured along five dimensions distinct from each
other,i.e.,OCEAN:-
Big five O-Openness
personality C-Conscientiousness
traits E-Extroversion
A-Agreeableness
N-Neuroticism
Personality is the way a person reacts
and interacts with others.
It is derived from the Latin word
What is “persona” which means “to speak
Personality? through”(masks).
Different people have different
personalities.
It refers to a person’s rigidity and range of interest.
People with high level of openness tend to listen to new
ideas and information and to change their ideas, beliefs
and attitudes according to new information. They are
Openness imaginative and creative and have broad interests.
Whereas, people with low level of openness tend to be
less receptive to new ideas and less willing to change
their thinking.
Refers to the ability of a person to exercise self-discipline
and self-control to pursue and ultimately achieve their
goals. It seeks to know that how many goals does a person
focus on.
People with more focus on their goals tend to be
Conscientiousness organised, disciplined and systematic.
People who pursue multiple goals at a time tend to be
careless, unorganised, irresponsible.
It refers to sociability and reflects comfort level with
relation to others.
People who are less extroverted are quiet, reserved and
more successful when work in activities like research
Extroversion and development.
People who are more extroverted are outgoing, seek
adventures and are more successful working in public
relations activities likes sales.
Refers to a person’s ability to get along with others.
People with high level of agreeableness are helpful,
forgiving, trusting, understanding, cooperative and good
Agreeableness natured.
People with low level of agreeableness are uncooperative
and suspicious. They don’t have good work relationships
Refers to the emotional stability of a person.
People having high emotional stability are calm, resilient
and better in handling job stress/pressure.
Neuroticism People having low level of emotional stability are
reactive, insecure and dependent. They tend to have an
intense feeling like that of love and hatred.
A person who possesses moderate to high level of these
five traits is the best alternative for any organisation as he
