Adverbs of frequency
When do we use adverbs of frequency?

We use adverbs of frequency to talk about how often we do


something.

I always get up early in the morning. I often


have breakfast at home.

They usually have lunch at school.

Katie never plays football. She sometimes


plays basketball.

How many adverbs of frequency can you find in the text?

I usually go to bed early in the evening. I get up at


seven in the morning, but I sometimes get up at
six and swim before class. Then I ride my bike to
school. I’m never late! My friends Sam and Mark
often play computer games late in the evening.
Then they get up at eight in the morning. They
always walk to school, and they’re often late.

There are six adverbs of frequency. Look!

How do we make sentences with adverbs
of frequency?
Adverbs of frequency

They always do their homework.

I am usually late. With Present Simple verbs, the


adverb goes before the verb.
She often plays the piano.

You sometimes get up late.

He never goes to the gym.

Word order They usually


have lunch
have
at lunch
home.at home.
She is never
at home.
at home. With the verb to be, the
adverb goes after the verb.
