Compact Spinnig

Compact spinning is a process that condenses fiber strands before twisting them into yarn. This eliminates the "spinning triangle" present in conventional ring spinning that causes uneven tension on fibers. As a result, compact spinning produces yarn with fewer protruding fibers and hairs, improved strength, and more uniform fiber orientation. It increases productivity and yarn quality while reducing twist levels, end breaks, pneumafil, and hairiness compared to conventional ring spinning. The document discusses different compacting systems and provides diagrams to illustrate the differences between conventional and compact spinning processes.

Compact spinning

What is compact spinning?

 The compact spinning is a process where fiber

strand drawn by drafting system is condensed
before twisting it. In compact spinning, the edge
fibers are completely taken up into the yarn
formation.
Why compact spinning?
 In conventional ring spinning, fibers in the selvedge of strand emerging from
front roller nip do not get fully integrated into the yarn because of the
restriction to twist flow by the spinning triangle. These fibers show up partly
as protruding hairs or as wild fibers.

 The spinning triangle exists because of higher width of the strand as

compared to final yarn diameter. Further the fibers are tensioned to varying
extent depending upon their position in the spinning triangle. As a result full
realization of fiber strength is not achieved in the yarn.

 The hairiness gives a rough feel to the yarn. Variation in hairiness is a source
of weft bars and warp way streaks in the fabric. Long protruding hairs from
the yarn contribute to multiple breaks in weaving and fabric faults like
stitches and floats.
Why compact spinning?
 This problem is solved by applying the compact spinning systems that
increases yarn quality. It is carried out by means of narrowing and decreasing
the width of the band of fibers which come out from the drawing apparatus
before it is twisted into yarn, and by the elimination of the spinning triangle.
It can be used for spinning both short and long staple yarns.

 The compact spinning process produces a new yarn structure, which

approaches the ideal staple fiber yarn construction even more closely. This
has positive effects on raw material use, productivity, downstream
processing, and on the product appearance.

Methods of compacting fiber strand

1. Aerodynamic compacting system:

a) Suction by drum and

b) Suction through perforated apron

2. Mechanical compact system.

3. Magnetic compacting system.

Hairiness of yarn

 What do you mean by the Hairiness value of yarn? If the

value of yarn hairiness is 5.
Why compact spinning is getting so
popular now a days??
 Reduce the spinning triangle
 Reduce the hairiness of the yarn
 Increase the yarn quality
 Reduce the end breakage rate
 Reduce the pneumafil
 Increase the productivity
 Less twist required to produce the yarn
Advantages of Compact Spinning:
 As maximum number of fibers are integrated into yarn body
during spinning, so better utilization of fibers at the same time
less fly generation and clean atmosphere is spinning department.
 Yarn twist can be reduced by 10% while maintaining the same
strength as the conventional ring yarn. Therefore, it is possible
to increase the machine speed which ultimately results into
increased production.
 The weak point in the spinning zone (spinning triangle) is
eliminated, the end breakage rate is considerably reduced which
again leading to higher machine efficiency.
 Increased strength and breaking elongation of yarn due to less
protruding fibers and improved orientation of fibers, which leads
to full realization of fiber strength.
Advantages of Compact Spinning
 Appreciable reduction in hairiness due to virtually elimination of
spinning triangle.
 Less expensive raw material can be used to produce good quality
yarn.
 Significant reduction in IPI, results better yarn quality.
 Singeing can be completely eliminated.
 Noil % at comber can be reduced as short fibers are better integrated
into yarn body during spinning..
 The improved characteristics of compact yarns gives higher yarn sales
price.
Advantages in Winding:

 Due to end breaks in spinning, improved winding

efficiency as few clearer cuts.
 Waxing of yarn can be eliminated.
Disadvantages of Compact Spinning:

 Higher capital cost of the machine due additional condensing zone in drafting
system.
 Increased maintenance of condensing zone which adds to cost.
