• Critical reading can help you evaluate their potential reliability as


future sources
• Finding an error in someone else’s argument can be the point of
destabilization you need to make a worthy argument of your own.
• requires you to think carefully about which strategies are effective for
making arguments, and in this age of social media and instant
publication, thinking carefully about what we say is a necessity.

• to scan for specific information


• to skim to get an overview of the text
• to relate new content to existing knowledge
• to write something (often depends on a prompt)

• to critique an argument

• for general comprehension
