Biometrics in Secure E-Transaction

This document discusses biometrics, which are biological measurements that can identify individuals. It defines biometrics as automatic identification based on physiological or behavioral characteristics. The document then explains how biometrics work and lists the main types: physiological like fingerprints and facial recognition, and behavioral like voice and signature. It outlines some key advantages like criminal identification but also disadvantages such as cost and inaccurate identifications. The document concludes that biometrics enhances security through unique and reliable identity verification and mitigates risks of traditional authentication methods.

INTRODUCTION

Biometrics are biological measurements — or

physical characteristics — that can be used to

identify individuals. example, fingerprint mapping,

facial recognition, and retina scans are all forms of

biometric technology.
DEFINITION OF
BIOMETRICS

Biometrics refers to the automatic identification of a person based

on physiological or behavioral characteristics .
HOW BIOMETRICS
WORK
Types Of Biometrics
1.Physiological biometrics

Physiological are related to the shape of

the body. Like Handprint, Fingerprint,
Face etc.
2. Behavioral biometrics

Behavioral are related to the behavior

of a person. Like Voice,
Handwriting ,Signature etc.
1.i) Fingerprint

Fingerprint Biometric Systems

examine the unique characteristics
of your fingerprints and use that
information to determine whether
or not you should be
1.ii) Handprint

Everybody-has unique handprint

Biomatrices scans hand and finger
data is compared with the stored
data in the system. The user is
allowed or denied based on the
result of this verification.
1.iii) Retina

Retina Pattern Biometric System Uses An

Infrared Beam To Scan Your Retina. Retina
Pattern Biometric Systems Examine The
Unique Characteristics Of User's Retina
And Compare That Information With
Stored Pattern.
1.iv) Face

A facial recognition system is a

computer application for automatically
identifying or verifying a person from a
digital image or a video frame from a
video source.
2.i) voice

Voice or speaker recognition uses vocal

characteristics to identify individuals

using a pass-phrase.
2.ii)Signature Verification

This technology examines speed, direction,

and pressure of writing; the time that the
stylus is in and out of contact with the
“paper’’.
2.iii) Keystroke Dynamics

Keystroke dynamics is an automated

method of examining an individual’s
keystrokes on a keyboard.
ADVANTAGE’S

• Criminal identification
• Prison security
• ATM and other Financial Transactions
• PC/LAN Login
• Database access
• Border crossing controls Biometrics
DISADVANTAGE’S

• Facial Imaging Can Also Hinder Accurate

• Costly
• Identifications
• Missing Body Part Problem
• False Acceptances And Rejections
• The Amount Of Comfort
APPLICATIONS

 Security Authentication

 E-commerce and E-governments

 Secure Banking and Financial Transaction

 Digital Rights Management

 Crime Investigation Social Services

CONCLUSION

 Biometrics enhances secure transactions through unique

and reliable identity verification.

 Physiological and behavioral characteristics like

fingerprints or facial recognition add an extra layer of
protection.

 Biometrics mitigates risks associated with traditional

authentication methods.

 Ongoing technological advancements underscore its

crucial role in safeguarding sensitive transactions and
data.
