Tukeys Test

Tukey's test is a statistical method used to identify significant differences between group means after an ANOVA. It compares all possible pairs of group means and determines which pairs are statistically different from each other. Tukey's test assumes the data is normally distributed, has equal variances between groups, and observations are independent. It is useful for experiments with three or more groups where ANOVA found significant differences between group means, such as comparing the effectiveness of different study methods on test scores.

Tukey’s Test

Prepared by: Shiela Saac-Nape

 Tukey-Kramer Test
 Tukey’s Honestly Significant
Difference (HSD) Test
 statistical method used in the field of multiple comparisons to identify significant
differences between group means

 it is particularly useful when you have conducted an analysis of variance (ANOVA)

and want to determine which specific groups differ from each other
 Tukey’s test is a parametric test
 In the context of analysis of variance (ANOVA), which is often prerequisite for applying Tukey’s test,
the assumptions include:
o The data within each group should be approximately normally distributed
o The variances of the groups should be roughly equal
o Observations within and between groups should be independent

 If these assumptions are met, Turkey's test is a powerful and widely used method for comparing multiple
group means after ANOVA.
 If the assumptions are not met, alternative nonparametric methods or transformations of the data may be
considered.
 WHEN TO USE THE DATA OF TUKEYS TEST

 Tukeys test is used when you have conducted an Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and have found
significant difference among the means of three or more groups.

 Purpose – to identify which specific groups differ from each other

Suppose you are conducting an experiment to compare the effectiveness of three
different study methods (A, B, and C) in improving students' test scores. You have a
total of four groups, including a control group that did not receive any special study
method. After conducting an Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), you find a significant
difference among the group means.

Here are the mean test scores for each group:

Control Group: 65
Study Method A: 78
Study Method B: 72
Study Method C: 80
