Science 6 Q3 W2
Science 6 Q3 W2
What to do:
1. Tie one end of a piece of string to a paperclip and tie the other
end around the stick.
2. Repeat twice more so that the stick has three paperclips attached.
3. Hold the stick up in the air, allowing the paperclips hang freely.
4. Tilt the stick back and forth.
Question 1:
Which direction do the paperclips point? ______
Question 2:
What happens when you tilt the stick? _____
Question 3.
How does gravity affect the movement of the
paperclips?
DAY 3
How does the gravitational force affect
people’s lives? Do you have any idea
of finding ways to minimize its effect?
In everyday life, we can observe the gravitational force and its
effects on the objects. Everything that goes up on Earth comes
down. Gravitational force is the force of attraction between all
masses in the universe, especially the attraction of Earth’s mass for
bodies near its surface. There are factors that affect the movement
of the objects as they fall such as the air, weight and distance.
Objects falling on Earth pass through air. The movement of the
falling object is affected by the air. It can slow down the movement
of an object.
Direction: Perform the activity given below and write your answers in your
activity notebook.
Problem: Does weight affect how fast the object fall? What You Need: metal
spoon and plastic spoon What You Need To Do:
1. Get a metal spoon and a plastic spoon.
2. Put the two spoons in each hand.
3. Drop the spoons at the same time and observe what spoon hit the floor first.
4. Do this three times.
Answer the following questions:
1. Which object consistently hits the floor first?
2. When you dropped two different objects, which
hits the floor first- the lighter or the heavier object?
Explain your answer. __________________________
3. What force acts on the objects as they fall?
4. How does weight relate to the gravitational force
of attraction?
Directions: Given the pictures below, tell how gravitational
force affects the objects. Write your answers in your
activity notebook
Directions: Supply the missing words in the paragraph to make it
complete. Choose among the words inside the box below. Write
your answers in your activity notebook.
The ___________is the force that acts on the objects as they fall to
the ground. The movement of the falling objects is affected by the
_____. It can _________the movement. The heavier the object, the
______it moves to the ground. The more distant the object from the
earth, the_____ gravitational force of attraction. The closer the
objects from each other, the ______is the gravitational force. When
the distance increases, the gravitational force__________.
It was Sir Isaac Newton, an English mathematician and
physicist who discovered gravity when he saw a falling apple
while thinking about the forces of nature.
• Gravity is the force that attracts planets, bodies and
elements towards each other.
• Gravity only pulls; it never repels.
• Gravity is weaker the farther an object is.
• Gravity causes everything to fall at the same speed.
This is why balls with different mass hit the ground at the
same time.
Put a check () on the space if the activity is
affected by the gravitational force and X if not.
Write your answer in your activity notebook.
_____ 1. Climbing the stairs
_____ 2. Lifting a pail
_____ 3. Pushing a cabinet
_____ 4. Plates on the table
_____ 5. Throwing garbage in the compost pit
DAY 4
Have you experienced mountain climbing?
Why is it hard for you to go up the
mountain than going down?
What do you think made it hard for you to
do so?

5. The gravity between two objects increases as the distance between them ___.
A. decreases
B. increases
C. neutralizes
D. stabilizes
