BLDC
BLDC
•MOTORS:
A device that converts
electrical energy into
mechanical energy
•ORIGIN:
Nicola Tesla introduces electric
motor in 1889.
He identifies the principle of
rotating magnetic fields.
Brushless DC (BLDC) Motors
•Brushless DC Motors are a type of synchronous motor
in which magnetic fields generated by the stator
and rotor rotate at the same frequency with no
slip
•In BLDC Motors permanent magnet are on the
rotor & electromagnet on stator controlled by
software
•Has no brushes and commutator
•BASIC COMPONENTS OF BLDC:
ROTOR:
The rotor of a typical BLDC motor is made out of permanent
magnets.
STATOR:
Similar to an Induction AC motor, the BLDC motor stator is made
out of laminated steel stacked windings. Windings in a stator are
arranged in star pattern (Y).
HALL SENSORS:
Hall sensors work on the hall-effect principle that senses the
position of coils
BASIC STRUCUTRE
Working Principle
•The underlying principles for the working of a
BLDC motor are the same as for a brushed DC
motor; i.e., internal shaft position feedback. In
case of a brushed DC motor, feedback is
implemented using a mechanical commutator
and brushes. Within BLDC motor, it is achieved
using multiple feedback sensors. The most
commonly used sensors are hall sensors and
optical encoders.
Working of BLDC Motor
•A DC current is used to energize the
respective windings
•Current through these windings
produces magnetic effect
•As there is no commutator , the current
direction of conducter on stator are
controlled electronically
•Hall Sensors are used to determine which
sets of coil must be energized at
particular instant
•The Voltage through specific coils turns
the motor
Advantages
•Because of computer control it is more
precise and more efficient
•There is no sparking and less noise
•Voltage and current rating is high
•High speed can be achieved
•As there are no brushes it requires no
servicing
•It has longer life
Disadvantages
•Requires Complex Drive Circuit
•Requires additional sensors
•Expensive
•Some designs require manual
labor
APPLICATIONS
•Industrial Applications
