A healthy mind and body is what
every adolescent (and everybody)
should strive for.
Lack of sleep
Poor eating habits
Long exposure to television and
gadgets
Embrace a healthy lifestyle, take time
to exercise and do sports activities
5. Developing or Regaining Self-Esteem
Objective and balanced
Strengths and weaknesses
Positive and negative
Children grew up with
criticisms often result in
loosing self-respect.
“I am a good person”
“I am strong and I can
accept challenges”
6. Roles
All human beings have roles to play in their lives.
• Daughter or son to your parents
• Brother of sister to your siblings
• Student in school
• Member in organization

A healthy adolescent whose self-identity is

clear and whose roles are integrated will understand
and accept the situation. Will recognize not merely
the roles but the values expected form him or her.

and skills. When finding the right career, adolescents
need to know what their interests
are, what things they find exciting and challenging.
Be ready to make sacrifices before you can
attain the kind of wealth and fame that may
come in doing what you love to do.
10. Relationships
Maintaining healthy relationships
require a certain level of
maturity. What is important is
for adolescent to understand
that her parents are concerned
for her safety and well-being,
and for the values her parents
uphold, and restricting her may
be a way of showing that they care for her.
Adolescents find it easier to bond with friends
rather than with family members. Healthy
friendships are necessary but then rumors can
easily destroy friendly relationships.
11. Values and beliefs

“ What will you fight for or die for?”

“What do you believe in?”
“What will I fight against?’
“What can I not afford to lose?”
12. Other challenges

Depression
Talk to your parents,
guardian, or school guidance
counselor. Be open about it.
It is nothing to be ashamed of.
Activity 4
Choose 2 of any of the 12
challenges discussed in this chapter
and come up with an essay that
portrays the challenges you are
experiencing in this adolescence stage.
