• All universities in Ethiopia design this internship project program for
student to change their theoretical knowledge to practical work. Since
Wollo University Kombolcha Institute of Technology is one of
Ethiopian university we get this changes to follow our internship
program in Amhara Metal Industry and Machine Technology
development enterprise and we gain many practical skills.
CHAPTER ONE

1. Background of the company


1.1 Its brief history
• Amhara metal industry and machine technology development enterprise is
located in Amhara national regional state, south Wollo zone, Kombolcha town,
which found 379km away from Addis Ababa.
• The main aim to establish AMIMTDE has been to make a fundamental
difference through a lead role in the industrialization of Ethiopia.
• . Amhara Metal Industry and Machine Technology development Enterprise
undertakes problem oriented aggro-ecological based research on pre-harvest
and irrigation technologies, post harvesting and processing technologies,
MISSION

• Performing activities of developing producing and commercializing


metal and machine technologies in order to develop internationally
competitive technologies and manufacturing industry that can solve
the bottle necks of agriculture and industrial technologies to assure
sustainable institutional growth.
Vision

• To become one of the top ten technology capabilities in Africa up to


2025 and seeing the developed region in near feature with great
motto “Building Competitiveness.”

CHAPTER TWO
OVERALL INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

How we get into the Company?


. After we gave request paper, which was prepared by Wollo
University(kiot) to internship affair office of the company. Then they
were volunteer to accept our request.

• The section of company we have been working


In our intern experience we have been working in sections of the
company such as Electrical work shop, Manufacturing, Tool Welding
and assembling room.
Manufacturing room
• all of the machines found in this room are used for a manufacturing
machine parts. Some of the machines found in this room are:
Lathe machines
 Shaper machines
Drilling machines etc.
Tool Room
• Hydraulic press machine
• Shearing machine
• Computer numerically controlled lath(CNCL) e.t.c
Welding Room
• we have been working is welding room. In these room there are many
welding machines that works by using
 Electric Arc welding
Gas tungsten arc welding
Gas metal arc welding
Ways of light control
• One way switch
• Two way switch
• Intermidiate switch
Electrical Motor
• An electric motor is an electric machine that converts electrical
energy in to mechanical energy. The reverse of this would be the
conversion of mechanical energy in to electrical energy and is done by
an electric generator.
Motor control
Motor controls the control system also provides protection for the
motor against overload and over current motor controllers is classified
as:
1. Manual controller :closing of switches and the movement
rheostat handles are by hand.
2. Magnetic controller :closing of switches or the movement of
rheostat handles are performed by magnetic contractor.
. Overload relay
• which provides protection to the motor against running and stalled
overloads.
• . Its heater is rated in ampere and adjustable.
Three Phase Induction Motor Starting
Methods
• we employ different types of starters.
These are: 1. DOL Starter
2.Forward Reverse starter
3.Star-Delta starter
1.Direct online starter (DOL)
• It is the simplest form of motor starter for induction motor is direct
online starter.

Forward Reverse Starter
• This can be accomplished by using two contactors, one for the
forward or CW rotation and one for the reverse or CCW rotation.
• The forward and reverse contactors are mechanically interlocked.

Star –Delta Starter
• is a motor starting mechanism that minimizes the large amount of
starting current that motors
• . It is required three contactors i.e., the Star Contactor (K3), the Delta
Contactor (K4) and the Main Contactor (K1).

Procedures we have been used to perform our task

• By asking help the technicians to share their practical knowledge. After they
showed me the steps to do a given task, we could simply accomplish the task
without any difficulty.
• How good we have been in performing our tasks ?
We present all the working days on time even some time we showed up out of
our working day on Saturday.
We are punctual
We accepted any kind of tasks that our supervisor gave it to me.
Before performing the task, we study it carefully with compatible things like
drawing and format of tasks.
The challenge we have been facing
• At the beginning of the apparent, there was lack of gaining
responsibility by our supervisors and the staff. This is because of no
experience in work place and Each worker does not responsible for
daily working time in their industry; continuously this is also the main
cause of the problem for flow of working.
CHAPTER THREE
Overall benefits we have gained from internship
1 In terms of improving our practical skills :We gain practical
experience of applying my engineering judgment and working
successfully with others. Creativity and an innovative approach to
solving problems;
• The ability to analyze and interpret diverse, complex data;
• Critical thinking and the ability to evaluate designs, plans and
projects;
• Effective assessment and management of risk, resources and time
etc..

• 2.In terms of upgrading our theoretical knowledge :Internship
program given to me the opportunity to apply our theoretical
knowledge in real world environments, in addition to the practical
skill.
• 3.In terms of improving inter personal communication skill :In the
company, we were working with all the factory members peacefully
and we have gained how to communicate with others to gain
information that we want.

an agreement from different points on the work to be done.
