INTRODUCTION:
PAKISTAN INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES FLIGHT 8303 WAS A SCHEDULED DOMESTIC FLIGHT
FROM ALLAMA IQBAL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN LAHORE TO JINNAH INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT IN KARACHI, PAKISTAN. ON 22 MAY 2020, THE AIRBUS A320 CRASHED
INTO MODEL COLONY, A DENSELY POPULATED RESIDENTIAL AREA OF KARACHI ONLY A
FEW KILOMETRES (MILES) FROM THE RUNWAY, WHILE ON A SECOND APPROACH AFTER A
FAILED LANDING WITH LANDING GEAR NOT DEPLOYED. OF THE 91 PASSENGERS AND 8
CREW ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT, 97 WERE KILLED, AND TWO PASSENGERS SURVIVED
WITH INJURIES. EIGHT PEOPLE ON THE GROUND WERE ALSO INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT.

AS PER THIS NOTIFICATION THE INVESTIGATION TEAM COMPRISES OF FOLLOWING

WE CONDUCTED THE INTERVIEW WITH 3 RELATED PERSONNEL’S. THE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ARE WRITTEN

Q1: WHAT WERE THE MAIN CAUSES OF THE ACCIDENT OF PIA FLIGHT PK8303 NEAR KARACHI AIRPORT ON 22-05-2020?
Q2: HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE ON BOARD FLIGHT PK8303, AND WHAT WERE THE OUTCOMES FOR THE PASSENGERS AND
CREW?
Q3: WAS THE AIRCRAFT, AN AIRBUS A320-214 WITH REGISTRATION NUMBER AP-BLD, OPERATING WITHIN ITS WEIGHT
AND BALANCE LIMITS AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT?
Q4: WAS THERE ANY INDICATION OF TECHNICAL MALFUNCTIONS OR MAINTENANCE ISSUES WITH THE AIRCRAFT PRIOR
TO THE ACCIDENT?
Q5: WHAT ACTIONS WERE TAKEN BY THE AIRPORT AUTHORITIES AND RESCUE TEAMS AFTER THE ACCIDENT?

Q8: WERE THERE ANY SPECIFIC AIRSIDE OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES OR REGULATIONS THAT WERE VIOLATED DURING
THE FLIGHT?
Q9: DID THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS PROVIDE APPROPRIATE GUIDANCE AND ASSISTANCE TO THE FLIGHT CREW?

RECOMMENDATION:
• THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE FOLLOWED THE SARP THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN OFF AGAIN
THEY SHOULD HAVE LANDED AND OFF-BOARDED THE PASSENGERS.

• THE OTHER APPROACH COULD HAVE BEEN WHEN THE PILOT DID TAKE OFF AGAIN HE SHOULD
HAVE CHECKED THE FUEL IN THE ENGINES, TO FOLLOW SARP HE MAINTAINED A HEIGHT OF
MORE THAN 12 THOUSAND FEET

• HE TOOK THE CLEARANCE FROM APPROACH AND NOT THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL THIS IS
WHERE IT GETS SUSPICIOUS.
CONCLUSION:

IT IS INDEED VERY SAD THAT 3 YEARS HAVE PASSED SINCE THIS ACCIDENT AND WE
DON’T HAVE A FINAL REPORT YET. IN CONCLUSION, THE FIRST OFFICER ON THE FLIGHT
TALKING ABOUT COVID-19 WAS HEARD IN THE FDR. IT IS ALSO FOUND OUT IN ONE OF
THE INTERVIEWS THAT THE CAPTAIN PRESENT IN PAKISTAN FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS
USA HE WAS KNOWN AS ARROGANT, AND RUDE THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER IS ALSO
AT FAULT BECAUSE THE AIRPLANE TAKE THE LANDING CLEARANCE FROM THE
APPROACH AND DID NOT FROM THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL DIRECTLY SO WHERE WAS
THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER HE WAS AT THIS FAULT EQUALLY THE PILOTS SHOULD
HAVE FOLLOWED THE PROTOCOL THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE DISENGAGED THE
AUTOPILOT THEY SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE FUEL IN THE ENGINE THEY SHOULD
HAVE CHECKED THE LANDING GEARS
