What are art elements?
- Art elements are considered as the building
blocks of art.

1. Lines
- A line can be thick or thin; straight, wavy,
curved, or angular; continuous or broken;
dotted, dashed, or a combination of any of
these.

Types of lines

ARTS 7
a. Static lines – They suggest firmness and
straightforwardness.
Vertical lines – These lines convey uprightness, dignity,
and assurance.

Horizontal lines – These lines suggest calmness, peace, and


sobriety

b. Dynamic lines – These signify movements,
cheerfulness, and continuity

c. Jagged lines – These lines give the
impression of chaos and disorder.

2. Shape and Form
- Shapes are defined by artist using lines
and contrast in color and texture.

3. Value/Tone
- It refers to the use of light and dark
colors in a piece of art

4. Color
- Is produced when artist use various
pigments and dyes to create a range of
different hues which the viewer’s eyes
and brain interpret as colors.

Basic terms to describe Colors

a. Hue- basic n a m e of color. Example : R e d


b.Value- it indicates how l i g h t or d a r k a color
is.
c. Intensity- it is the b r i g h t n e s s or d u l l n e s s
of a color.
5. Texture
- This could be the simulated appearance
of roughness or smoothness in visual arts
or the actual surface feel of a work of art
or craft

6. Space
- This refers to the physical space among
objects and the area that separates them
The area occupied by objects is called “positive space”

The area between the objects is often referred to as “negative space”
