 The lecture method is a teaching
method where the instructor
acts as the primary information
giver. The instructor typically
stands in front of the students
and may use a visual aid, such
as a PowerPoint presentation,
chalkboard or handout.
 “Lecture is a pedagogical
method whereby the teacher
formally delivers a carefully
planned expository address on
some particular topic”.

 To provide structured
knowledge.
 To motivate and guide in
hunting knowledge.
 To arouse students interest in a
subject.
 To facilitate good human
relationships.
 To assist in preparing students
for discussion.
 Introduce students to new areas

 To clarify different concepts.
Types of Lectures

 The ideal lecture- the


participants attend the lecture of
their own willing and this
implies commitment on their
impact. Values and beliefs are
shared by both parties.
Ex: lecture given by politicians.
 The Classical lecture- in our
education system at lectures is
seen as a being largely
compulsory. The students attend
the lectures, with focus of
getting good marks and this is
more specific in its subject
matter.
 The Experimental lecture- lecture
is given to participants to
explain concepts and
explanations about the issues in
questions.
Factors Influencing Planning Lecture

 Learner Factors:
 Educational background of the
student.
 Previous knowledge.
 Class size and learning styles.
 Personality and intelligence.
Subject Matter Factors:
 Domain of object.
 Content to be learned.
 Nature of content, simple
or complex.
Environmental Factors:
 AV Aids.
 Lightening and ventilations.
 Noise and climate.
 Infrastructure settings.
Psychological Factors:
 Emotions.

teaching where one teacher can
communicate with large no. of
students.
 Helps to save time and resources.

 Better opportunity for clarification
of doubts.

in short time.
Disadvantages of Lecture Method
 Keeps the students in passive
manner.
 It does not facilitate learning
problem solving .
 Students get material second
hand rather than from primary
sources .
 It may fail to promote active and
independent learning.
