WELCOME TO MY PRESENTATION
• In this presentation I will tell you few points:
• There are many computer uses in different fields of work. Engineers, architects, jewelers,
and filmmakers all use computers to design things. Teachers, writers, and most office
workers use computers for research, word processing and emailing.
In hospital
COMPUTER IN HOSPITAL
Major uses of computers in medicine include hospital information system, data analysis in medicine,
medical imaging laboratory computing, computer assisted medical decision making, care of critically ill
patients, computer assisted therapy and so on.
Computers are becoming increasingly popular every passing day amongst a wide section of people. With
the advent of microcomputers in late seventies and their subsequent performance enhancement in
eighties, computers have reached our homes. Computers have undoubtedly revolutionized our whole life
style. Computer techniques have tremendous applications in medical field, where it has the largest
amount of social impact. Computers are playing an important role in the running of large hospitals.
Computer facilities are now regarded as integral to much diagnostic equipment. The word computer
comes from the word “compute”, which means to calculate. Computer can be defined as an electronic
device that is designed to automatically accept data, store and process then producing output results.
Computers are used to store and process large amount of data and provide information to the user and to
perform large number of calculations rapidly and accurately. Charles Babbage is considered to be father
of modern computer.
COMPUTER FOR EDUCATIONAL
PURPOSE
Computers have revolutionized the teaching profession in multiple ways. Teachers
use computers to record grades, calculate averages, manage attendance and access data on
student performance in online programs and assessments. Computers have also made it easier
for teachers to vary their instructional delivery.
Instead of lecturing at the front of the room for an entire class period, teachers can incorporate
technology into their lessons to keep students engaged while appealing to a variety of learning
styles. From using computers to create presentations on a topic to showing video clips that
complement the lesson at hand, technology helps teachers make the content easier for students
to understand.
COMPUTER IN SCHOOL
Computers can be used to help:
retrieve precisely targeted data with greater speed and accuracy. increase the amount of data
held ready for use. sift relevant data from irrelevant. turn data into information.
COMPUTER IN BUSINESS:
Computers help in research, production, distribution, marketing, banking, team
management, business automation, data storage, employee management, and very helpful to
increase productivity at a lower cost, less time with high quality. That's why the use of
the computer is important in business.
IMPORTANCE OF COMPUTER IN
BUSINESS
• The importance of Computers in Business:- Computers speed up the business processes
and systems with top quality. Today’s world computer is important to use to start an online
and offline business. A computer is important to use in businComputers help businesses to
collect manages, calculate, arrange, and visualize customer data and information by us
computer applications such as Microsoft word, excel, lower PowerPoint, and tally. A
computer helps to communicate faster with the customer by using the internet, online
communication tools, and internet phone system. It’s really important for the administration
of the big or small organization and each field that manages resources and Opportunites.
• Computer help creates marketing and advertising materials by using adobe photoshop, Corel
draw, online designing tools. The computer is used in business to create websites for
business. The computer is important in business to automate business transactions by using
online banking, payment Gateway.
COMPUTER IN BANK
Banks and other financial institution are heavy users of computers in maintaining customer's
accounts, ledger, updating, electronic fund transfer and processing of huge amount of cheques,
credit cards, and the major transactions that takes place daily.
ROLE OF COMPUTER IN BANKING SECTOR:
A bank can be defined as a financial institution, organization or a place that provides a
financial service, equally one can also defined bank as an establishment authorized by a
government to accept deposits, pay interest, clear checks, make loans, act as an intermediary in
financial transactions, allows the purchase of bills and checks or the purchase and sales of
securities and provide other financial services to its customers.
INTRODUCTION
• The first computers were people! That is, electronic computers (and the earlier mechanical computers) were given this name because they performed
the work that had previously been assigned to people. “Computer” was originally a job title: It was used to describe those human beings
(predominantly women) whose job was to perform the repetitive calculations required to compute such things as navigational tables, tide charts and
planetary positions for astronomical almanacs. A long time ago, people charged with the duty of collection and disbursements of tax were encountering
problems in calculations. In those days, the problems faced by the early method of data processing involved the use of animal skin, feather, grains etc.
were very difficult for them to handle. These were later replaced by the use of pens, inks, papers, chalk, etc. just to supplement human efforts in
counting, recording, manipulating, sorting, etc. of data these methods were so boring, frustrating, time consuming and also associated with some
errors.
• So further research continues, in France 1642 Blaise Pascal, at age 19 invented the Pascaline as an aid to his father who was a tax collector in
calculating columns of figures. The computer has probably been introduced and the basic of its purpose is the processing of data into information. The
term data is a symbolic representation of facts about people, object or place. A computer is a programmable electronic machine that performs high-
speed mathematical or logical operation or otherwise process information. In fact the importance of information to an individual or organization cannot
be over emphasized, in carrying out day-to-day activities. Every individual, organization needs information. Banks and other financial institution are
heavy users of computers in maintaining customer’s accounts, ledger, updating, electronic fund transfer and processing of huge amount of cheques,
credit cards, and the major transactions that takes place daily. The up coming automatic teller machines (ATM) already installed by most banks are the
most visible symbols of computer in the banking sector in Nigeria. They are of course everywhere in Europe, America and Asia. The Automatic Teller
machine (ATM) enable bank customer to withdraw, recharge phones, transfer funds from their various accounts even when the bank is closed
physically. Each transaction made, the customer’s record is updated and he or she is provided with a print out or notification. However the use of
computer in the banking sector can be an efficient tool in speeding up the process and reducing the cost of producing and undertaking figure works.
More effective control procedure in computerized system can bring about sales budgeting and credit control. Many credit cards, smart cards, master
cards can also be used to withdraw money at an ATM and the online banking against the credit limit extended to the card. Customers keep their money
in the bank safely and it is paid out when needed by means of cheques and other ways.
COMPUTER AT HOME
Home. Computers are used at homes for several purposes like online bill payment, watching
movies or shows at home, home tutoring, social media access, playing games, internet access,
etc. They provide communication through electronic mail. They help to avail work
from home facility for corporate employees.
COMPUTER IN MEDICAL FIELDS:
Computers are used in hospitals to maintain a database of patients’ history, diagnosis, X-rays,
live monitoring of patients, etc. Surgeons nowadays use robotic surgical devices to perform
delicate operations, and conduct surgeries remotely. Virtual reality technologies are also used
for training purposes. It also helps to monitor the fetus inside the mother’s womb.
COMPUTER FOR ENTERTAINMENT
Computers help to watch movies online, play games online; act as a virtual entertainer in
playing games, listening to music, etc. MIDI instruments greatly help people in the
entertainment industry in recording music with artificial instruments. Videos can be fed from
computers to full screen televisions. Photo editors are available with fabulous features.
COMPUTER IN INDUSTRY:
Computers are used to perform several tasks in industries like managing inventory, designing
purpose, creating virtual sample products, interior designing, video conferencing, etc. Online
marketing has seen a great revolution in its ability to sell various products to inaccessible
corners like interior or rural areas. Stock markets have seen phenomenal participation from
different levels of people through the use of computers.
COMPUTER IN ONLINE
MARKETING
Digital marketing is the component of marketing that
utilizes internet and online based digital technologies such as desktop computers, mobile
phones and other digital media and platforms to promote products and services.
COMPUTER IN GOVERNMENT:
In government sectors, computers are used in data processing, maintaining a database of
citizens and supporting a paperless environment. The country’s defense organizations have
greatly benefitted from computers in their use for missile development, satellites, rocket
launches, etc.
APPLICATION SOFTWARE
• An application is any program, or group of programs, that is designed for the end user. Applications software (also
called end-user programs) include such things as database programs, word processors, Web browsers and spreadsheets.
An application is any program, or group of programs, that is designed for the end user.
• Developers have many different options for getting their applications to end users. In decades past, nearly all applications
were installed directly on the users' PCs and/or servers.
• Today, many applications are delivered as Web applications. The code for these applications resides on a Web server, and
users access the application via a Web browser. Common examples of Web applications include Web-based email, social
media platforms, wikis and online auctions.
• The distinctions between Web applications and websites can be a bit fuzzy. However, in general, websites have primarily
static content with few interactive elements, while Web applications have primarily dynamic content and are designed for
user interaction.
• A third type, software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications, is closely related to Web applications. As with Web applications,
users generally access SaaS applications via a Web browser. However, some SaaS applications can also be accessed via a
native mobile app on a device like a smartphone or a tablet. Also, user data for a SaaS application is stored in a cloud
computing environment (which may or may not be the case for Web applications), and many SaaS applications charge a
subscription fee, which is less common for Web applications.
WHAT IS APPLICATION SOFTWARE
• Application software is a type of computer program that performs a specific personal, educational, and
business function. Each program is designed to assist the user with a particular process, which may be related
to productivity, creativity, and/or communication.
