Simple Present Tense
It shows an action or activity which happens regularly.
 It shows frequent actions and facts.
(frequent actions = habitual actions and daily
activities)
 They play game every weekend.
 The students are very happy.
 She has four siblings.
Structure Tobe Verbs
Affirmative Str: S + V (tobe) + C. They are my close friends.
Interrogative Str: Tobe + S + C? Are they my close friends?
Negative Str: S + V (tobe) + not + C. They are not my close friends.
Negative Int Str: Tobe + not + S + C? Aren’t they my close friends? (Am)
Tobe + S + not + C? Are they not my
close friends? (Br)
Structure Tobe Verbs
 Affirmative Str: S + V + C. They watch television every night.
 Interrogative Str: Do/Does + S + V + C? Do they watch television e n?
 Negative Str: S + don’t/doesn’t + V + C. They don’t watch television e n.

Examples
 They have a nice house.
 He wants to run his own business.

Oral Exercise: Change the following sentences into negative and
interrogative.
1. My brother lives with my parents.
2. I know the answer.
3. I am a trouble shooter.
4. My brother works at a bank.
5. Naghma sings really well.
6. Mateen gets along with his brother-in-law.
7. It rains a lot in Thailand.
8. Afghanistan is located in the heart of Asia.
9. Germany exports cars to Arabs.
10. The cats meows a lot.
Usages
1. It is used to show a habit. Ali always laugh in
the class.
2. It is used to show a universal or general fact / truth.
 Allah (S.W.T) is one. Ahmad is an Engineer
3. It is used in headline which shows the meaning of past tense.
 Ghani meets Joe Bidden. Afghanistan wins the
match.
4. It shows a repeated action. Ali recites Holy Quran in the
morning.
5. It is used for instruction and direction.
Rules of Adding (-s/-es)
Note: If the subject is third person singular (he, she, it), and verb is
neither Tobe nor To have, the verb takes –s or –es.
1) Verbs ending in (-s, ss, ch, sh, o, x and z) take (-es)

2)Verbs ending in (-e or -ee) take (-s)

Present tense sentences.

Simple Future Tense
It show an action which will happen at specific time in the future.
 They will finish the project next month.
 He will graduate from university next year.
Affirmative Str: S + will/shall + V1 + Comp.
Interrogative Str: Will/Shall + S + V1 + Comp? (will not =
won’t)
Negative Str: S + will/shall + not + V1 + Comp . (shall not = shan’t)
Negative Int Str: Will/Shall + not + S + V1 + Comp? (Am)
Usages
1. It expresses an action which is likely to happen in the future.
 Most of the students will pass the exam.
2. It is used when the decision of doing something is made at the
moment or during the time of speaking.
 What would you like to order? I will have a pizza and a beverage.
3. It is used when we want to make a prediction based on past
experience or our opinion.
 If you step on a banana peel, you will fall on the ground.
Note: Will is preferred in more formal English than “be going to” to
talk about future time.
Exercise: Use the given verbs in parentheses using simple future tense.
