Kalki Krishnamurthy, born September 9, 1899, in
Tamil Nadu, was a renowned Indian writer known
for his historical novels like "Ponniyin Selvan." Also
a journalist and freedom fighter, he founded Kalki
magazine. His works blend fiction with historical

He passed away on December 5, 1954.

"The Tiger King" by Kalki begins with a prophecy that the Maharaja
of Pratibandapuram will be killed by a tiger. Determined to defy this
fate, the Maharaja vows to kill one hundred tigers. His obsessive
quest leads to absurd situations, showcasing his irrational measures.
After killing ninety-nine tigers, he buys a wooden tiger for his son.
Ironically, a sliver from the toy infects his hand, causing his death
and fulfilling the prophecy.
