Introduction of tools
INTRODUCTION
A tool is any instrument or simple piece of equipment that you hold in your hands
and use to do a particular kind of work. For example, spades, hammers etc.
Not only in automobile industries, but other industries also.
Tools and equipment's used in earlier days are poor and not accurate compared to
the present situation.
By using modern tools, the mechanic can easily identify and rectify the fault this
can increase the productivity .

Different Types Of Automotive Workshop Tools
1. Measuring tools
2. Power tools
3. Hand tools
4. Special tools
5. Cleaning tools
MEASURING TOOLS
A measuring is anything used to take a count of quantitative data, such as weight,
length, time or temperature
Different type of measuring tools
• Screw gauge
• Vernier caliper
• Measuring tape
• Feeler gauge
• Dial gauge
• Bore gauge
• Multimeter
SCREW GAUGE
Hand tools are those which are directly used by mechanics to do certain task which uses
only man power.
1. Hammer set
2. Screw driver
3. Ratchet set
4. Spanners
5. Chisels
6. Files
7. Pliers
8. Allen key
HAMMERS
Hammer is a tool mostly a hand tool consisting of a weighted head fixed to along
the handle that is used to deliver an impact to smaller area of an object. Eg- a
nail to a wood.
It consist of a head , a handle ( for normal work, the handle length is about 250 to
300 mm, for heavy work 350 to 400 mm)
❖ Different types of hammers
1. Ball peen hammer
2. Rubber hammer
3. Plastic hammer
SCREW DRIVER
A tool for turning screw that has a handle at the one end and a metal rod
at the other end, shaped to fit to the top of the screw.
Shank material - vanadium steel
Tip material - steel, e.g.- SAE 6150 steel
These are thin steel rods with six faces that are
bent at 90 degree angle from once end.
These are available in different sizes.
POWER TOOLS
Power tools are those tools which are operated by external input like electric
current, fuels, compressed air etc.
Based up on the external input they can divided into
1. Pneumatic tools
2. Hydraulic tools
3. Electrically powered tools
PNEUMATIC TOOLS
Pneumatic tools are those tools which are powered by compressed air from the
compressor.(Basically compressor pressure is around 4 to 6 bar).
❖ Different types of pneumatic tools
1. Air drills
2. Air grinder
3. Pneumatic gun
4. Paint sprayer
