SOCIAL INTERACTION MODEL
INTRODUCTION :

Social Interaction Model are the


instructional methods used by teachers in
the classroom to facilitate group work. It is
a student centered teaching approaches that
allows students to interact with each other in
a structured on task manner.
SOCIAL INTERACTION MODEL :

* This kind of teaching models give importance to


personal social relations and ability to integrate
oneself with others and function harmoniously in a
social group.

* These models are based on the principle “All


education is socialization” and emphasize
democratic practices in the classroom.

* Many teaching models have been developed based


on social interactions. The important teaching
models that find place in this family are ;

THE MODEL

1. Group Interaction Model Herbart Thelen and John Designed for developing the
Dewey skill of participation in
democratic social process, in
addition to academic and
inquiry skills.

2.Classroom Meeting Model William Glaser Development of self


understanding and
responsibility of self and the
social group to which he
belongs.

3.Social Inquiry Model Byron Massials and Developing ability to solve


Benjamin Cox social primarily through
academic inquiry and logical
reasoning.

THE MODEL

4.Jurisprudential Model Donald Olive & James P. Developing the skill to social
Shaver problems legally and finding
solutions.

5.Role Playing Frennie Shaftel & George Inducing students to inquire


Shaftel personal and social values,
using their own behaviour and
values as the source of inquiry.

6.Social Simulation Model Sarene Borock Helping students to experience


various social processes and
realities and examine their
own reactions to them.

7.Laboratory Model National Training Development of skills in


Laboratory , Bethel Maine social interactions,
improving self –awareness
and flexibility.
SOCIAL INTERACTION STRATEGIES :
* Social interaction strategies begin with an introduction of the
topic\objectives of the lesson by the teacher.
* Then students in the class join their respective teams,
each consisting of 5 or 6 students.
* Team members discuss among themselves the concepts in the
given topic.
* Students discuss in pair or in small sub group with 2 or 3
members , can actively engage themselves and discuss the
topic. If any of the concepts in the topic is not understood by
the members of a sub group , then they consult with the
members of the other sub group in the team.
* The teacher should monitor the teams so that they stay on task
and engage themselves actively in discussing and sharing
information among themselves.

* In each team students will serve as facilitators and others as


learners . At the end of the time ,the representative of each team
will present the reviewed report of his team to other teams.

*Students must be active and responsible for their learning, both


acting as a facilitator and learner.

* The team working skills of compromise , negotiation and


motivation get developed and used in the earning process.
STEPS INVOLVED IN IMPLEMENTING THE SOCIAL
INTERACTION MODEL:
 Teacher introduces the topic in the class and present an
outline of the concepts contained in the topic.
 Students group into teams.
 Members in each team discuss and explain their topic
among themselves in small sub group of 2 or 3
members.
 Teacher monitor continuously the teams so that they
stay on task.
 Student group present their findings to the entire class.
 Teacher explains the left out facts and concepts and
completes the learning of the topic.
CONCLUSION :

In this model, the learners are break in to groups


and the instructor continues to monitor and assess
teams and their. Finally, the teams conclude with
their results\findings.
