Past Simple
Use:

To describe actions or events that start in the past and finish in the past.

I watched a movie last night.

To ask and deny actions or events in the past.

Did you call your mom yesterday?

To describe past habits.

I played tennis when I was a teenager.


Characteristics
• Auxiliary Verb: : Did (It is used in negative and interrogative form)
I didn´t play soccer yesterday. No: I did play soccer.
Did you play soccer yesterday?

• In affirmative form the main verb changes into past. Only in affirmative.
I swam in the lake last month.
• In negative and interrogative form the main verb keeps its infinitive form.
• I didn’t swim in the lake last month. No: I didn´t swam in the lake last month.
• Did you swim in the lake last month. No: Did you swam in the lake last month.

• Time expressions. Yesterday, last week, this morning, etc.


Regular irregular Verbs

• We add the ending –ed • We change or keep the


structure of the Word.
• Work – worked
• Talk – talked • Do - done
• Dance - danced • Go – went
• Put - put
Structure
• Affirmative:
• Subject pronoun + main verb in past tense + complement.

• Negative:
• Subject pronoun + auxiliary verb - + not + main verb + complement.

• Interrogative:
• Auxiliary verb + subject pronoun + main verb + complement + ?
Examples.
• Affirmative:
• I won the soccer tournament last week. I’m still happy.

• Negative:
• She didn’t travel much this year.

• Interrogative:
• Did you write that famous novel? Yes, I did.
