Past Simple
To describe actions or events that start in the past and finish in the past.
• In affirmative form the main verb changes into past. Only in affirmative.
I swam in the lake last month.
• In negative and interrogative form the main verb keeps its infinitive form.
• I didn’t swim in the lake last month. No: I didn´t swam in the lake last month.
• Did you swim in the lake last month. No: Did you swam in the lake last month.
Regular Irregular
• Negative:
• Subject pronoun + auxiliary verb - + not + main verb + complement.
• Interrogative:
• Auxiliary verb + subject pronoun + main verb + complement + ?
Examples.
• Affirmative:
• I won the soccer tournament last week. I’m still happy.
• Negative:
• She didn’t travel much this year.
• Interrogative:
• Did you write that famous novel? Yes, I did.
