SMART GOALS
SMART Goals
are a useful tool for planning and achieving
goals in a variety of contexts, including
community action projects. The acronym
SMART stands for Specific, Measurable,
Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
Smart Goals
Specific -Goals should be clear and well-
defined, with a focus on what needs to be
accomplished and how it will be accomplished.
This helps to ensure that everyone involved in the
project is working towards the same objective.

sMart Goals
Measurable -Goals should be measurable
in order to track progress and determine
success. This can be done by identifying specific
indicators or metrics that will be used to
measure progress towards the goal.

smArt Goals
Achievable -Goals should be realistic and
attainable, based on available resources and
capabilities. This helps to ensure that goals are
not overly ambitious or impossible to achieve.

Relevant -Goals should be relevant to the
overall mission and objectives of the community
action project. This ensures that the goal is
aligned with the larger vision for the project.
SMART Goals
Time-bound -Goals should have a clear
timeline or deadline for completion. This helps to
ensure that progress is being made and that the
project is moving forward.

-In community action projects, organizations and individuals can
increase the likelihood of success by ensuring that goals are
well-defined, measurable, and achievable.
- This approach helps to keep everyone on the same page, track
progress, and adjust strategies as necessary to ensure that goals
are being met.
- SMART goals can be used to guide decision-making, identify
priorities, and evaluate progress towards the overall goals of the
project.

SMART goal for running a
marathon
Specific: I’d like to start training every day to run a marathon.
Measurable: I will use a fitness tracking device to track my
training progress as my mileage increases.
Attainable: I’ve already run a half-marathon this year and have
a solid baseline fitness level.
Relevant: I value my health and wellness, and this fitness goal
will help me sustain that.
Time-bound: The marathon is in June of next year, so I must be
ready by then.
