TECHNOLOGY-
BASED ARTS
What is
Technology
-Based Art?
 Technology-based art
is essentially computer-
generated and/or
manipulated arts.
The switch between the 20 and 21
th st

centuries saw the biggest global

developments in the art world. These
were the times when a lot of artists
placed their trust in the emerging
technology, brazenly thinking that it is
the road ahead, optimistically from
one era to the next.
COMPUTER/
DIGITAL
ARTS
The artwork that involves the
use of a computer is called
digital art. In this type of art,
the computer is the vital part of
the creation of the
presentation.
Computers allow the artists to save
changes in work and create an
endless number of variations.
Artists can edit and make a series of
pictures from a single one.
They can try colors, transfer shapes
and recycle images quickly and
easily.
Artists can undo mistakes, unlike in
the traditional art making process.
The computer gives the artist the
power to manipulate images and scales.
The computer permits the artist to
view design operations that consist of
varying or repeating images in ways
not possible before.
Morphing is a special effect in motion
pictures and animations that changes (or
morphs) one image or shape into another
through a seamless transition.
Fractalizing is putting one image over
another for different degrees of transparency,
making forms grow according to
predetermined patterns.
Spherizing is making forms appear as if
they were in a reflecting orb.
Part 1. Mobile
Phone Art,
Computer Art, and
Digital Photography
MOBILE PHONE ARTS
•Mobile phone arts are built into gadgets
such as tablets, laptops, computer and
even cellphones which is an advantage to
people who love photography. They have
built in digital screens that offer instant
playback, adjustment and review of
captured images and videos.
Computer generated images
•CGI are any images made with the
use of a computer-based program
or processor. We used to see these
on billboards, advertisements and
film productions.
Digital photography
•It is a technology that uses digital
cameras to capture images. The
process of point-and-shoot and
digital single-lens reflex (DSLR)
camera photography is simple: Just
point the camera and then shoot.
TRIVIA:
CAMERA
OBSCUR
A
CAMERA OBSCURA
• is a natural optical phenomenon that
occurs when an image of a scene is
projected as a reversed and inverted
image through a small hole on a surface
opposite to the opening of the enclosed
darken space.
• It is derived from the Latin language
which means dark room.
Point-and-shoot cameras
•Also referred to as “compacts”, are
designed for very simple operation.
These cameras include autofocus
and other automatic functions and
settings and a built in flash.
Dslr cAMERAS
•These are normally used for professional
photography. They have more options
that allow photographers to produce
more artistic and technically correct
pictures. DSLR cameras, however, are
bulkier, more complex to operate and still
expensive.

PHOTO SUBJECT
MATTERS
PORTRAIT
It is a record of what
a person looks like.
Images are usually
captured closed up
vertically, hence the
word “portrait” is
provided in mobile
camera settings.
landscape
 It features the
beauty of nature or
cityscapes. Images
are usually captured
horizontally for a
wider view, hence the
word “landscape” is
provided in mobile
camera settings.
genre
 It focuses on
everyday life, usually
people are included.
It captures from little
moments and
dramas of day-to-day
existence to large,
important social
issues and events.
abstract
It enables simplified
natural forms that are
reduced to their most
distinctive aspects.
Many abstract photos
may seem nonsense
at first, but the little
caption gives them a
deeper meaning.
Unique photo
angles
Tilt shot
Camera angle is
slanted to one
side for
dramatic effects
and portray
different
feelings.
Framing shot
Focuses on
the image
where you, the
photographer,
wants to
emphasize.
Wide angle or
panoramic shot

Capture a
sweeping
view of your
subject.
Backlighting
shot
Light used comes
from behind the
subject. We also
refer to this as
“against the
light” or
“silhouette shot.”
Eye-level-shot
Where the
photographer
is at the same
height and
angle as the
subject.
Panning shot
 The camera
follows the
subject from left
to right or right to
left, blurring the
backgrounds and
showing speed.
High angle shot
Looks down
at the subject.
Freeze-frame
shot
Captures fast
movement
using an
ordinary
camera.
BIRD’S
EYESHOT
An elevated view
of an object from
above, with a
perspective as
though the
observer was a
bird.
Zoom shot
 The
camera
moves in on
the subject.
Close up or
macro shot
Helps you
see really
close to the
subject.
SOFT FOCUS
SHOT
Gives the appearance
of blurring while
retaining sharp edges.
It is used to eliminate
blemishes and
produce a dreamlike
image.
