 Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS) is a non profit organization focus


on developing Hong Kong IT profession and industry

 IT Professionals New Zealand (ITP) is a community of thousand of


professionals who works in IT industry and care about professional
practice, support professional development, set standards and work
hard to help other members to get ahead
Vision

 HKCS – To promote the use of IT in Hong Kong

 ITP - Authoritative voice of the IT profession that leads professional


development and good practice in IT
Mission

 HKCS - To provides a medium for disseminating knowledge and


promoting the appreciation of IT and related tools.

 ITP - To guide professional IT with good conduct of ethics in IT


profession.
Objective

Purpose

 HKCS - To ensure members utilize the services provided by the body


as an IT hub in promoting IT in this country

 ITP - To ensure members have a duty to provide loyal and competent


service to their clients and employers

 Be honest and trustworthy, and will not knowingly engage in or associate with
dishonest or fraudulent practices.
 Continuous improvement of professional knowledge and skills, shall maintain
awareness of technological developments, procedures and standards, which are
relevant to my field.
 Only offer to do work or provide a service, which is within my professional
competence and shall not claim any level of competence that I do not possess;
any professional opinion which I am asked to give shall be objective and reliable.
 Qualify professional opinions, which I know are based on limited knowledge or
experience. I will not misrepresent my skills or knowledge nor knowingly mislead
a client or potential client as to the suitability of a product or service.
 Not require, or attempt to influence, any person to take any action, which would
involve a breach of this Code.

 Keep myself and subordinates informed of such new technologies, practices,
legal requirements and standards as are relevant to my duties, and seek to
conform to recognised good practices including quality standards, which are
in my judgment relevant, and encourage my subordinates to do likewise.

professional development, and ensure that subordinates are trained in order
to be effective in their duties and to qualify for increased responsibilities.
 Create opportunities for members of the organisation to learn the principles
and limitations of IT and systems.

any assignment except for good reason and on reasonable notice.

Similarities

 Both organization have membership application which have 3 major


levels, associate, full member and fellow member.
 Admission fee and annual subscription fees need to be paid due

Differences

 HKCS have Special Interest Group (SIG) which is not a member of the
society may not attend council meetings and general meetings of the
society unless approved by the council. SIG chairman only entitled to
attend council meetings as observer.
 Two persons not being members of the Council shall be elected as
Honorary Auditors at each Annual General Meeting and shall hold
office until the next Annual General Meeting
 IN ITP, SIG are formally recognized groups of members with a
specialist interest, formed to provide networking and collaboration
opportunities
Details

 ITP provide very details explanation about their bylaws and


constitution. The bylaws show the responsibility of each members in
the organization for each different classes.
 HKCS does not provide detail explanation about their bylaws. They
only give the constitution which is may be have all of the information
but does not explain detail responsibilities of each members.

 Each members from the organization are needed to follow the code of
ethics and code of conduct in order to show good behavior to
community.
Coverage

 The coverage of the organization is wide enough as they cover the


local IT professional and also overseas IT professional. The overseas
members also need to pay the admission fees and annual
subscription fees.
 They also have chartered professional certificate which allows
members to obtain that certificate and improve their CV.
