• Learn from your mistake
• Think in English what you have done or what you are going to do

Paralinguistic Features of Voice

• Paralinguistic Features of Voice means how


something is said while speaking or in oral
communication. It is not possible to have paralanguage
without use of oral language. It s very similar to the
relation b/n computer software and hardware; they are
useless without each other.
• It is the study of how something is said than to study
what is said.Basically,it is a type of non-verbal
communication that includes pitch, rate voice quality of
speech.

background.

background.
• It gives us useful clues regarding the speaker’s mental
state. His voice quality, speaking speed make it easy for
the receiver of the message hoe best to deal with him.
• It indicates speaker’s place in the organisation.on the
basis of his voice quality, one can guess his position in
the hierarchy.

Disadvantages of paralanguage

• It is like language but not language.


• What is said and how it is said must be blended.
• The voice quality and pitch of the speaker may
unnecessarily prejudice the receiver of the message who
has to be very open minded and patient.
• As speakers belong to different speech communities it is
difficult to achieve uniformity in oral communication.
