When?Why?What?How?
 When: Sir Francis Galton is often credited with inventing linear
regression,Galton first proposed the concept of linear regression
in 1894.
 Why: Galton introduced the term "regression" to explain the
relationship between the heights of parents and children.
 What: Linear regression is a statistical test that quantifies the
relationship between variables in a data set.
 How: Galton's theory of inheritance motivated him to discover
the technique of regression and correlation.
The Method of least Squares
 The least squares method is a statistical procedure to find
the best fit for a set of data points. The method works by
minimizing the sum of the offsets or residuals of points from the
plotted curve. Least squares regression is used to predict the
behavior of dependent variables.
It’s Importance
 Linear-regression models are relatively simple and provide an
easy-to-interpret mathematical formula that can generate
predictions. Linear regression can be applied to various areas in
business and academic study.
 We will see that linear regression is used in everything from
biological, behavioral, environmental and social sciences to
business. Linear-regression models have become a proven way to
scientifically and reliably predict the future. Because linear
regression is a long-established statistical procedure, the
properties of linear-regression models are well understood and
can be trained very quickly
Regression Lines Line Of Best Fit
 A line of best fit, also known as a regression line or trend line, is a
straight line that shows the trend of data points on a graph. It's
used to predict the behavior of data and show the relationship
between the independent variable (x) and the dependent
variable (y)
 The equation for a line of best fit is usually represented as y =
mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept
 You can use computer spreadsheets, statistical software, and
many calculators to find the best-fit line and create graphs
Identification Of Regression Equations
 A regression equation is a statistical model that shows the relationship
between a predictor variable and an outcome variable. Here are some
things to know about regression equations.
• The equation: The simplest form of a linear regression equation is y = a · x
+ b, where a is the regression coefficient and b is the constant.
• The variables: In the equation Y = b + bx + e, Y is the outcome variable and
X is the predictor variable.
• The intercept: The intercept, b, predicts where the regression line crosses
the y-axis.
• The slope: The slope, b, predicts the change in y for every unit change in x.
• The regression lines: If X and Y are two variables, there are two regression
lines: regression of X on Y and regression of Y on X
Angle Between Two lines Of
Regression
The two lines of regression intersect at the point whose coordinates give the
means of both the variables, i.e. (x¯,y¯). The formula for the angle between
the two lines of regression is θ=tan–1|(1–r2r)σxσyσx2+σy2|. When the angle
between the two lines of regression is 0 or π then there is a perfect
correlation between the two variables. When the angle between the two
lines of regression is π2 then there is no correlation between the two
variables. Thus, the angle between the two lines of regression is a
connecting link between regression and correlation.

Acknowledgement

 I would like to thank my teacher Mr. Rajendra Matalia for his insightful
guidance with the completion of my project. This project would not have
been competed without the help of my friend and family who helped me and
contributed their valuable time in this project.
Conclusion

 To conclude I have learned a lot about application of lines of

regression in our daily life and I have alos learned how to do
proper research for any topic . I believe this experience was very
fruitfull and informative for me as I got to learn a lot of
knowledge that I was previously unaware about.
