DEFINITION AND SOCIAL FUNCTION

Report text is a text provides information


related to an object, which can be in the form
of animal, places event or other in general and
in accordance with the state of the object.

The social function is to present information


about something generally.
GENERIC STRUCTURE

Title : indicates the topic of the text.

General classification: a part that


state classification of general aspect of
things.

Description: describing of the things


which will discussed in detail.
LANGUAGE FEATURES
 Using general noun not using particular noun
E.g: hunting dogs
 Using Simple present tense to inform the general truth.
E.g: often,usually, always, today or etc.
 Using linking verb
Kata kerja penghubung seperti : is, am, are, apeear, grow,
look, smell, sound, and taste. E.g: he is handsome, it smells
nice, the song sound beautiful, etc.
 Using Technical terms.
Report text also often uses terms related to the topic
discussed. For example, when you make a report text about
animals, the text must contain terms about the animals.
Steps for Writing Report Text.
 Theme Analysis
Starting with the title of the text, it will describe an animal, person,
things, or a place.
For example, writing about Indonesian performing arts, or the
problem of teenage bullying

 Gathering Ideas
This can be done using mindmaps, tables, or bullet points. Write
down only the important points, using commas, dashes, or crisp
marks. For example: Teenage Bullying
● Definition Causes of occurrence
● Types of bullying
● Impact of bullying
Steps for Writing Report Text.
 Separate the ideas for each paragraph
From each idea that has been collected, put each idea in a
paragraph for writing. For example, writing about problems at
school, then:
● The first paragraph contains the definition and causes of the
problem.
● The second paragraph - as necessary - contains the types of
problems, both in terms of form and location
● The last paragraph contains the impact of the problem.

 Developing writing based on the points in the


paragraph
After each point is in its own paragraph, it will be easier for us
to develop the paragraph. Do this by completing the sentences
EXAMPLE: PANDA
Pandas, particularly the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), are
fascinating mammals native to the mountainous regions of central China. Known
for their distinctive black-and-white fur, these bears capture the hearts of many
and have become iconic symbols of wildlife conservation. The physical
characteristics of giant pandas are remarkable. They have a robust and stocky
build, with males weighing between 85 to 125 kilograms, while females are
slightly smaller. The black fur covers their eyes, ears, limbs, and shoulders,
creating a unique pattern.
Pandas are renowned for their bamboo-based diet. Despite their
classification as bears, their diet consists mainly of bamboo shoots, leaves, and
stems. Adult pandas consume around 12 to 38 kilograms of bamboo daily,
showcasing their strong jaws and teeth adapted for bamboo consumption. In
addition to bamboo, pandas may supplement their diet with small mammals,
birds, and carrion.
The habitat of giant pandas primarily includes dense bamboo forests
found in the mountainous regions of China. These habitats are characterized by
cool, wet climates, which align with the pandas’ need for bamboo, their primary
food source. The unique adaptations of giant pandas, including their opposable

Pandas are solitary creatures, with males and females
generally avoiding each other except during the breeding
season. The reproductive rates of pandas are relatively low,
and females give birth to one or two cubs after a gestation
period of around five months. The cubs are born blind, hairless,
and helpless, relying entirely on the mother’s care.
China plays a crucial role in panda conservation, with
various reserves and national parks dedicated to protecting
these endangered species. Conservation efforts include captive
breeding programs, scientific research, and initiatives to
preserve and restore their natural habitats. The conservation
status of giant pandas has improved in recent years due to
these efforts, with their population showing signs of recovery.
