PRESENTATION TITLE
● When an object, such as a spring, is stretched,
the increased length is called its extension.
PRESENTATION TITLE

● length of stretched spring= original length+

PRESENTATION TITLE
5.3 The limit of proportionality and the spring constant
PRESENTATION TITLE
The extension of a spring is proportional to the
load applied to it, provided the limit of
proportionality is not exceeded

Hooke’s law is expressed in terms of

k=f/x
Spring constant- a measure of stiffness of the spring
A stiffer spring has a greater value for the spring constant
Stiffer the spring—bigger the load required to change the length—
steeper the gradient

5.4 PRESSURE
● Water pressure is the result of the weight of all the water above pushing down on the
water below.
● As you go deeper into a body of water, there is more water above, and therefore a
greater weight pushing down.
● This is the reason water pressure increases with depth
● Water cause more pressure as compared to air because water is denser than air

PRESSURE IN GASES
Boyle's Law

P1V1 = P2V2

This Law basically

states that a
change in the
volume of a gas will
have an effect on
its pressure.
