INTRODUCTION

Definition: RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) uses radio

waves to identify and track objects.
Relevance:
Enhances efficiency in automation, inventory, and logistics,
contributing to smarter resource management.
Visual: Basic RFID tag with a sustainability-oriented graphic
(e.g., reducing waste).
How RFID Works

•Process:
1.Reader emits a signal.
2.RFID tag responds with data.
3.Data is processed in the backend system.
•Frequency Types: LF, HF, UHF, and Microwave.
•Visual: Workflow diagram with SDG-aligned icons (e.g., for
reduced waste).
: Components of an RFID System

• Tags: Passive, Active, Semi-passive.

• Reader: Captures tag data.
• Antenna: Facilitates communication.
• Backend System: Processes and analyzes data.
TYPES OF RFID

•Passive Tags:
•Affordable, ideal for inventory.
•Supports SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
•Active Tags:
•Long-range; used in logistics and transport.
•Supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
•Semi-Passive Tags: Energy-efficient solutions.
Applications of RFID

•Retail & Inventory Management: Reduces waste (SDG 12).

•Healthcare: Track equipment and medicines for efficient care (SDG
3: Good Health and Well-being).
•Transportation: Efficient toll systems, reducing emissions (SDG
11: Sustainable Cities and Communities).
•Agriculture: Livestock tracking, enhancing food safety (SDG 2:
Zero Hunger).
•Recycling and Waste Management: Sorting recyclables
automatically (SDG 13: Climate Action).
Advantages of RFID
Technology

•Key Benefits:
•Reduces operational inefficiencies.
•Enhances resource tracking, aligning with SDG 12.
•Improves supply chain sustainability (SDG 9).
•Reduces carbon footprint through optimized logistics (SDG 13).
Challenges and Limitations

•High Initial Costs: Barrier to adoption in developing regions (SDG

10: Reduced Inequalities).
•Data Privacy Risks: Challenges in ensuring secure tracking.
•Signal Interference: Limits adoption in some environments.
•Power Consumption: Impacts on SDG 7: Affordable and Clean
Energy.
Future of RFID Technology

•Integration with IoT and AI: Smarter systems for sustainable

solutions.
•RFID in Smart Cities: Enhances transport, utilities, and public
safety (SDG 11).
•Innovations in Green RFID Tags: Biodegradable materials
(SDG 13).
•Global Access: Making RFID affordable for all industries (SDG
10).
Conclusion

•RFID is a game-changing technology driving innovation and

sustainability.
