Introduction:
Ratios
A ratio compares two or more values.
A ratio says how much of one thing there is compared to another
thing.

We can say: “There are 3 orange squares to 1 purple square”

We write this in maths Orange : Purple
as: 3:1

We can also say: “There is 1 purple square to 3 orange squares”

Purple : Orange

A ratio can be scaled up and down.

Here is the ratio 3 oranges to 1 purple.

Orange : Purple

We can scale it up to make the ratio 6 oranges to 2 purples.

Orange : Purple

Here the ratio is also 3 oranges to 1 purple, even though there are
more squares. Can you explain why this is?
