MICHAEL M. COROZA
• Writes poetry, fiction, critical essays
and is engaged in literary
translation.
• He is famous for promoting the
traditional poetic genre of the
Philippines "Balagtasan".
• He Has a column in a literary
magazine Haraya (Imagination) and
Liwayway (Dawn).
• He participated in international
poetry readings "Kuala Lumpur-10"
(2004) and the Second literary
festival "Korea-ASEAN" in Jakarta
(2011).
MANUEL E. ARGUILLA
( 1911-1944)
• An Ilocano writer who
wrote in English.
• He was best known for
his short story, “ How
my Brother Leon
Brought Home a Wife”
which received first
prize in the
Commonwealth
Literary Contest in
1940.
• Most of his stories
• was born in Siasi, Sulu, on 26 August 1947 to Utoh
ANTHONY TAN Hotiong Tan and Kimchu Lu, both of Chinese Sama
descent. He is the fifth of ten children. He earned his
BA English from the Ateneo de Zamboanga in 1968
and went on to Silliman University in Dumaguete
City for both his MA Creative Writing (1975) and
PHD. British Literature(1982). He edited Sands and
Coral,1976
• For more than a decade he taught at the English
Department of Silliman University and was a regular
member of the panel of critics at the Silliman
National Summer Writers Workshop.
• In 1983, he joined the faculty of the English
Department at MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology
and became one of its chairpersons in 1984-85
• Together with Jaime An Lim and Christine Godinez
Ortega, he helped organize the first Iligan National
Writers Workshop/Literature Teachers Conference in
1993. He retired from teaching in 2012
• He has won a number of awards for his writings,
among them the Focus Philippines award for poetry,
the Palanca 1st prize for “Poems for Muddas” (1993)

Lacambra Ayala
• (born June 1, 1956 in Bukidnon,
Philippines), professionally known
as Joey Ayala, is a Filipino singer,
songwriter and former chairman
of the music committee of the
National Commission for Culture
and the Arts.
• He was best known for his folk
and contemporary pop music
artist in the Philippines, he is
known for his songs that are
more on the the improvement of
the environment.
Merlie M. Alunan
• Merlie M. Alunan was born
December 14, 1943, in
Dingle, Iloilo. Alunan
graduated from Silliman
University with an MA in
creative writing in 1974.
She teaches at the
Creative Writing Center,[1]
University of the
Philippines Visayas

• Alvarez was born in the Philippines
and grew up in Tasmania,
Australia.[4] While studying
English at the University of
Tasmania, she was published in
Suzette Sévero Doctolero
• (born December 16, 1968) is a
Filipina screenwriter for film and
television. She is best known for
being the creator of Encantadia in
2005 and the succeeding related
television series including the
Encantadia 2016 reboot. She is
mostly credited as screenwriter,
series creator and creative
consultant for GMA Network. Her
other works include Amaya, Indio
and My Husband's Lover.
• She also wrote the story for the
film Let the Love Begin and
Aida Rivera-Ford
• Born in Sulu, Aida Rivera-Ford
crossed over to Negros Oriental in
1949 for an English degree at
Silliman University. Records toast
her as the first editor of Sands and
Coral, the school's literary folio. In
1954, she flew to the University of
Michigan on a Fulbright grant to
secure her master's degree in
English and won the prestigious
Jules and Avery Hopwood for
fiction.
• She graduated with an AB degree
major in English, Cum Laude in
1949.
