INTRODUCTION
O Pharmaceutical technology is application of scientific
knowledge or technology to pharmacy, pharmacology,
and the pharmaceutical industry. It includes methods,
techniques, and instrumentation in the manufacture,
preparation, compounding, dispensing, packaging, and
storing of drugs and other preparations used in diagnostic
and determinative procedures and in the treatment of
patients. Pharmaceutical technology is a discipline which
deals with production of pharmaceutical dosage forms,
bioavailability and stability of produced dosage forms,
preparation, development and testing of modified release
systems, determination of the properties of excipients and
formulation of these excipients with active ingredients in
the most convenient way, and finally it deals with the
development and testing of new drug carrier systems.
Objective
O Delivering the active medicament to the body system for a
certain therapeutic action is the central idea of Pharmaceutical
technology. A Pharmaceutical drug is delivered through various
routes of administration with the help of various kinds of dosage
forms. Moreover a drug product should be effective, safe and
stable. This course deals with the technologies and techniques
used to manufacture the pharmaceutical products.
O The goal of the course is to give students a broad
understanding of conventional pharmaceutical technology. The
main focus is on the formulation and production of dosage
forms, the science behind these and production technology. The
subject also gives knowledge on the production and
manufacturing of novel drug delivery system. Students will
learn about the practical aspects of these technologies which
are used in manufacturing the pharmaceutical dosage forms.
