The quality matters
Quality is the most important consideration in
early childhood settings. Positive child outcomes
and benefits are strongly related to the quality of
the EC service.
1. Quality early childhood education and can make a
difference for young children. When it is done right, EC
programs benefit families and communities as well as the
children themselves.
2. Early childhood experiences nurture, protect, and
educate young children and benefit their families, their
communities, and the large society.

3. The Early Learning and Care Impact Analysis study and

the Benefits and Cost of Good Child Care study conclude
that for every dollar invested in high-quality early
childhood development, there is more than a two dollar
benefit to children, parents and society.
Benefits of the Children
1. Preventing the Loss of Potential
Globally, the Bernard van Leer Foundation estimates that
more than 200 million children under 5 years of age are
not reaching their full potential in mental and social
development due to extreme poverty and poor health and
nutrition. The quality child care maximizing this
development potential, society can interrupt the cycle of
poverty and help to promote equity in society.
The UN Convention for the
Backgrounds Rights of the children provides
Education as a the most significant basis for
policy development on behalf
basic rights of young children.

It requires that government

All young children, ensure that all young children
without exception, be respected as persons in

good-quality learning obligation on national
opportunities. governments to make regular
reports to the UN.
2. helping children to reach their fullest potential
The early years are the most significant in shaping
children’s futures, and adequate provision for learning and
development must be ensured.

Children who participate in high-quality early learning

programs are more likely to succeed in school and,
ultimately, earn higher wages.
3. Research

There is overwhelming evidence of the importance of early

childhood experiences in determining greater success in
school, levels of health, and socioeconomic status
throughout a person’s life.

With the research evidence of longitudinal studies and

neuroscience showing that a child’s earliest experiences are
the most significant in determining progress in education
and later success in life.
4. Brain development
In fact, children who have been well nurtured have brains
that are physically different from those of children who
experienced less-favorable yin their early years.

A child’s experiences during the early years have the

greatest influence of any time in the life cycle on brain
development, learning, behavior, and health. The quality of
children’s early years shapes their brain architecture and
affects their health and wellbeing throughout their lives.
5. Specialized services for First Nation children,
children with special needs, and other children from diverse
backgrounds

High-quality early childhood programs can be a powerful

tool for breaking the intergenerational cycle of special
needs children by giving them opportunities to develop the
foundational knowledge and skills, resilience and emotional
maturity they need to succeed in school and society.

The studies demonstrate that the most effective

interventions were comprehensive, for example, health,
nutrition and development in providing services to children,
and that
including an active parenting and high level of parent
involvement is a more effective strategy.
Benefits to Parents
a. Quality child care, affordable, and accessible, makes it
possible to balance family and work responsibilities. It
allows parents to build their careers and earn enough to
support their families. Parents who can concentrate on their
jobs or schooling, knowing that their children are well cared
for.

b. Reduction in the Stress of families experience balancing

work and family responsibilities. Without quality early
learning and child care, many parents will have no options.
They will be forced to give up careers and income so they
can stay home with their kids.
Benefits for Employee

Investing $1 million in early child care would create 40 jobs-

at least 43% more jobs than next-highest industry and four
times the number of jobs generated by $1 million in
construction spending. (Karen Chandler,2018)

Women constitute 98% of the child care workforce. The

good quality child care offer women opportunities to pursue
rewarding careers.
One of the most important components of high-quality
programs is education and ongoing professional
development of the staff.

Have post-secondary education in early childhood

development and are knowledgeable about young
children’s learning styles and needs. Understand the impact
that culture, race, ethnicity, language, gender, family
environment, and
development abilities have on learning, and have the
knowledge and skills to address the diverse needs of all
children. The good quality child care are adequately
compensated and supported in their work.
Workforce shortages of EC

10000 per year in recent
Workforce years, and high turn over
shortages among EC staff are a result of
low rates of pay and poor
working conditions.

salary of educators in BC is
$18.2. Entry Level position
start at $31,200 per year,
while most experienced
workers make $45,694 per

Benefits for Society
In economic terms, investment in early childhood brings
greater returns and long-term rewards than investing in any
other period of human development, including further
education and job training.

The good quality child care produce three dollars or more in

returns for every dollar of investment.

Every dollar invested in early child care increases the

economy’s output (GDP Canada,2024)by $2.3. This is one of
the highest GDP impacts of all major sectors.
Quality, Affordable, and accessible

Nearly one in seven Canadian children still lives in

poverty! (Tackling Poverty together,2022) They are
unable to pay for the considerable costs of early child
care programs.

Thus, not only the good quality of early childhood

programs are important but also it should be
affordable and accessible.
The good early child care programs also affect the
economy and society as a whole, and thus trust must
be seen as a societal responsibility.

Ultimately, ensuring healthy child development,

therefore, a stronger and more competent future
workforce and capacity to thrive both economically
and as a society.
Thank You
