How Are Heat And
Temperature Are Related • Temperature And Thermal Energy
• Thermal Expansion
• Heat Transfer
• Phase Changes • Temperature And Thermal Energy
Temperature is a measure of the average
kinetic energy of the particles in a substance. ( for example: thermometer)
Thermal energy refers to the kinetic energy of
randomly moving particles in a substance. for example: geothermal energy) • Thermal Expansion Thermal expansion is where materials expand while being heated, causing them to take up more space. HOW IT WORKS?
- is where an object expands and becomes
larger due to a change in its temperature. A higher temperature means that the molecules are moving faster on average, causing them to take up more space. Consequently, objects that are heated up increase in size.(for example a boiling water in a pot) • Heat Transfer Heat transfer is the movement of thermal energy between physical systems with different temperatures. It's a natural phenomenon that occurs in many aspects of modern life, including: Cooking food, Cooling a laptop, Generating electricity in a power plant, Heating the Earth by solar radiation, and Storms caused by convection currents in the earth's atmosphere. • Phase Changes
Phase change is when a substance changes
from one state, or phase, to another. This can happen when a substance gains or loses a large amount of energy, or when pressure or temperature changes. HOW IT WORKS? Phase change occurs when matter transitions from one state to another, such as solid to liquid, liquid to gas, or solid to gas: For Example: Melting - From solid to liquid Freezing - From liquid to solid Evaporation - From lquid to gas Condensation - from gas to liquid
