Semen Collection Methods
Semen Collection Methods
Preparation of AV
• Semen is an organic fluid, also known as
seminal fluid, that usually contains spermatozoa.
• It is secreted by the gonads.
• Seminal fluid contains several components
besides spermatozoa: proteolytic and other
enzymes as well as fructose are elements of
seminal fluid which promote the survival of
spermatozoa and provide a medium through
which they can move or "swim."

Electro-ejaculation procedure
Advantages of Electro-
ejaculation
• Semen can be collected from males that
are too young or old or unable to mount
due too weak or injured legs.
• No female or dummy is required for
collection.
• Less chance of contamination.
Disadvantages of Electro-
ejaculation
• Highly technical method and need
considerable skill and practice.
• The semen generally gets contaminated
with urine.
• Some males resist too much to this
method and refuse collection.
• Sciatic nerves are temporarily affected
during the operation but is relatively minor
if the electrodes are kept over the ampullar
region.
